After reading the posts by KRiSX regarding Heavy Gear II and Myth2 I spent a bit of time browsing around for Lokigames related files. Lokigames contributed GREATLY to Linux gaming, and during their short lifespan released a large number of very good games to the Linux gaming community. We Linux gamers owe them a great deal of respect for their pioneering work. Without Loki's efforts Linux gamers would not be able to play as many mainstream games as we enjoy now. I purchased several of the Lokigames releases and still play many today.
As I visited their home site, ( http://www.lokigames.com ) which is still up as of this writing, it occurred to me that much of this wealth of games for Linux is gradually disappearing from the Internet. Many of the update sites are no longer functioning. Some are still up and have all of the updates and demos, most of which work very nicely in Xandros 1.0 and 2.0.
For those of you who are into gaming on the Linux platform you may want to download these files now while they are still available.
A couple of sites that are still functioning are:
ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/lokigames/updates/
and
ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/lokigames/updates/
I hope that some serious Linux desktop company realizes the wealth of games in the Loki portfolio and possibly purchases them from the limbo they are falling into.
Xandros, Lindows, Suse, anyone. It would be a real waste to see these games slide into oblivion. |

Here's a little help for those who want to archive the remaining mirrors...
1. Install wget... as root or su, type apt-get install wget
2. As a normal user, type wget -r ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/lokigames/updates/ (or any other mirror, and btw, please use one, don't just copy and paste this command and run it, it'll put too much load on the sunsite server...)
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Only do this if your intention is to create an archive for future linux gamers... If you have only two games and are not planning to host your own repository someday, DON'T do this... This command downloads everything, and of course bandwidth costs somebody something, so we want to preserve the info, not kill the few remaining servers out there... Thanks _________________

I'd like to add that you can now get updates for the older loki games here:
