I would like to install a video DVD burning app that installs all the bells and whistles like titles and menus, but I keep getting broken packages at Xandros Networks. Is there a certain resource to use at XN or certain app I can install, so I can burning my own home brewed DVD movies?
Please someone answer me - and don't let this this with Microsoft get you down.

What application/s are you trying to install?
And which repositories do you have enabled?

Thanks for your reply. I am using the following sources list. I know that one of them is not working, but I don't know which.

I have tried installing Q DVD author, DVD Styler, DVD Wizard and a few others, but they are all broken packages at Xandros Networks. I would prefer a GUI because I'm just not good at the command line w/o some major examples.
Any of these apps would be perfect for my needs, but I can't find all the dependencies for a proper installation on my own.
I'm generating my own .mpg movies that I want to put on video DVDs. I'll have to turn to Windows if it doesn't exist for Xandros anymore (Xandows?)
I'm on kind of a time constraint, so I really appreciate your help.

I think you probably would be able to do that using K9Copy... I dunno if that package is in any of those repositories.. Alternatively, you could build it from source if you know how... Might be worth a shot..
Note that by default, K9Copy doesn't preserve menus.. You have to set that option before copying.. You will also need libdvdcss to decrypt DVD's if they are copy protected. _________________

Hi redrum,
If I get your drift, I'm not out to copy DVDs. I'm actually producing videos on my own and I want to put it on video DVDs. The apps that I want at XN are broken packages.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. _________________ X4 Kernal 2.6.18-dcc-smp: AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 4600+ in ASUSTek M2N4-SLI MB

NGC2070:~# apt-get install dvdstyler
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
dvdstyler: Depends: libbonobo2-0 (>= 2.13.0) but 2.8.1-2 is to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6) but 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge4 is to be install ed
Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.0) but 1:3.4.3-13sarge1 is to be install ed
Depends: libgconf2-4 (>= 2.13.5) but 2.8.1-6 is to be installed
Depends: libgnome-keyring0 (>= 0.4.3) but 0.4.2-1 is to be installe d
Depends: libgnome2-0 (>= 2.14.1) but 2.8.1-2 is to be installed
Depends: libgnomecanvas2-0 (>= 2.11.1) but 2.8.0-1 is to be install ed
Depends: libgnomevfs2-0 (>= 2.13.92) but 2.8.4-4 is to be installed
Depends: libpopt0 (>= 1.10) but 1.7-5 is to be installed
Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.0) but 3.4.3-13sarge1 is to be installe d
Depends: libwxbase2.6-0 (>= 2.6.3.2.1) but it is not installable
Depends: libwxgtk2.6-0 (>= 2.6.3.2.1) but it is not installable
Depends: libxml2 (>= 2.6.26) but 2.6.22-4 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
I also looked for dependencies attached to qdvdauthor, but some of them were also missing. Could this be a microsoft conspiracy? I guess I'll have to turn to windows if linux is being sabotaged. _________________ X4 Kernal 2.6.18-dcc-smp: AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 4600+ in ASUSTek M2N4-SLI MB

Thank you very much all of you for your help.
Special thanks to Doctore for providing the necessary resources. I now have DVDStyler on my machine.

in the future...if you see that error again....
try apt-get -f install
It looks to try and solve your dependency hell

Its risky mixing "Debian old stable" (sarge), "new stable" (etch), "testing" (lenny)
and "unstable" (sid). So always check what repositories you are using before:

I have bookmarked this page for future reference.
The thing is, if I have to do that, there is no point in spending $100 for Xandros. My hope was to find a distro that would run it natively. Someone on another forum said Sabayon does, so I guess I will have to try that one and see. |
