|
|
I have just installed Doctore's Xandros (Kenux) 4.5 on a laptop.
I have a PCMIA 3COM wireless network card as the wireless adaptor as the preferred choice of network access.
When I boot, initailly I am only shown my LAN connection. If I click on WIRELESS NETWORKS (from the network system tray icon), it does show me my wireless network and prompt me to connect, which indeed I continue to do without a problem (including entering my WEP security key).
Once connected, everything looks and works fine.
I set the connection in the configuration preferences to start at boot, and set my preferred static IP address.
Heres the thing. When I reboot the laptop, I have to do all again. The wireless adaptor doesnt seem to search and connect as instructed by my connection preferences. I have searched the forums but cannot find anything specific to 'wireless adaptor works but just wont search and autoconnect at boot up'. (I had a similar problem with Xan3.0 but that had Redrum guiding me on downloading the driver to begin with and compiling which is not the problem I have now; my devices work already just need to remember to start everytime).
Can anyone help me please?

Do it in the network preferences in the control center. I had the same issue and that is the only way I could make it stick. Not sure what the difference is. _________________

Spot on Tekmate!
That did the trick.
Log in as root, run the network connection setup through control panel. Job done.
Strange that it has to be that way, but a way IS a way. So no problem.
