Not sure how, but the problem seemed to have solved itself.

Thanks anyway,

Did you get the message "Dynamic MMap ran out of room
"?
If so, and you get it again, edit the file
/etc/apt/apt.conf
and change the line :
APT::Cache-Limit
to some large figure, like APT::Cache-Limit 10000000;

I appreciate the security built into the system!!

I broke my distro and had to reinstall everything. I appreciate the fact that it automatically saves the home folder!! I didn't loose any docs.!!! If it had happened with the other "leading" software, I would have lost everything. appreciate you guys. I am off to pin my system

Pinning is great and really should be made easier so less people hose their systems.

I'm just glad that there are tutorials that I can just follow the commands. I have no ideal what I am doing, I just know that it is necessary.

I have the same problem, but it is not fixing itself. I have tried various commands at adm console, but I am getting the same error message:

Quote:

NGC2070:~# apt-get --purge remove hpijs
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 10000000. (man 5 apt.conf)
E: Error occurred while processing libgnomevfs2-common (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/xnv4.xandros.com_4.0_pkg_dists_xandros4.0-xn_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Wow, I have some errors going on. A little help here? Thanks in advance.
