|
|
As a result of my children downloading lots of files, the hard disk is full and the system won't boot.
When I try and boot to the GUI, the system hangs partway through the starting system services phase. When I try and boot under Expert mode, the boot process reports problems with no disk space and then hangs while trying to start the Firewall.
Any suggestions as to how I can access the disk in order to delete some files. This is not a dual boot system, so any solution involving a Windows partition is not available.
Thanks,
Paul |

Hi paul_hummerston and welcome to "Xandros" user forums!
Easiest solution would be to use an LiveCD and delete unecessary files. _________________ Linux User #432929

Any suggestions as to an appropriate LiveCD? There seems to be about 50 that I can quickly find on Google.
Thanks,
Paul |

I usually use Puppy Linux for that sort of thing. It's a small download, and it has the advantage that it will run entirely in memory, so you can pull the CD out of the drive once it's running, and burn your data on to CDs. But Mepis is a great one, too.

I agree puppy linux is very good for this
by the way letting your kids download files is dangerous
if it is songs then they should rip them to cd and delete them from the computer or they should invest in a large usb external drive if they want to keep them on a hard drive _________________ the only stupid question there is is the question that is not asked!
