over at Freespire fourms there is talk of starting a letter writing campaign to urge Xandros to release Freespire back to the community. Some might want to do the same for release of Xandros OCE to the community. Couldn't hurt I guess.

Why bother?
Ubuntu 10.04 and PcLinux 2010 are out there and both are just great.
Oh there's always Mint Linux 9.
I have purchased all versions of Xandros from the start, even an Eee by Assus but me thinks Xandros is a dead horse and no matter how you
beat it, it will never run again...its sad.
I am even surprised they keep the forum open..
Sorry to see all gone.

I would like to see X4 still alive as I use it on my mobile rack. Still the best:

1. file manager
2, image viewer

Ubuntu wont run Kompozer but X4 will.

The lost world of the Xandros desktop
"The latest release of the Xandros Linux desktop edition was
in June 2006, which is several lifetimes in the history of Linux.
Is this the end of the line for the Xandros desktop?

Well - the signs certainly doesnt look good, so...

Has anybody tried extracting the File Manager and used it in other systems?

I was attracted by the file manager when it was part of Corel and I still haven't found a better one.

Using LinuxMint I mix kde3 with kde 4 but you must load kde 3 progs first.

RevLinuxOS is still KDE 3.5.10, and we haven't decided if we are going to move to the Trinity project as a base and use KDE 3.5.11 or higher when we release our next major version or if we will go to KDE 4.5.

I still have a problem with the layout and tools of KDE 4.x.
I think it actually makes my computing more difficult instead of easier!

If we do go to KDE 4.x, I may check into what it would take to get rid of the crappy task bar and replace it with something else.

Xandros desktop is dead.

Tested Xandros Filemanager on MEPIS 7.0 some years ago. It worked quite well.
And Xandros KDE on Debian Lenny last autumn. Worked also but not satisfying
enough.

Installs (still) now and then Xandros Desktop 4.2/4.5 plus EeePC 1.6/1.7 but
mostly MEPIS 8.0/8.5 and Ubuntu 10.04 on new machines. Most important for
the user is (as always) that the OS works with the used hardware.

Geekydude is right. Sarge and Etch based Xandros Desktop is dead. However
File Manager is still very good and should be applicable on other distributions,
by using "Alien-trick" end necessary dependencies from Xandros.
