Thanks everyone for your help
I am running Xandros 4 OCE.
Being a fairly new Linux user I am deducting by your replies that there is no noob easy way to install FF3?
Is there a step-by-step proceedure that I can follow?
Finially what is the schedule for the next release of Xandros OCE?
If nothing is planned for a release soon, is 4.5 really worth installing? |

If "XD 4.1 OCE" offers necessary hardware and software compability for you,
then switching may not do much difference. However, "XD 4.5-OC" uses an
newer kernel and is also "Debian Etch" (Stable) based, so you gets both better
support for newer hardware and software with it. _________________ Linux User #432929

Thanks Doctore,
Tried installing 4.5 OCE and cant get past 2% install without the statement
of corrupted data.
Haven't learned how to check md5sum yet, and I burned the .iso at the slowest speed so I am thinking the download link is bad or my DVD media is smudged or scratched. The DVD drive in my system is new.
I need a good reliable link to download Xandros 4.5.OCE from and I will try a new DVD disk and see If I can get a clean install.
Do you have a link to the best site with Xandros 4.5 OCE available?
Thanks |

I also recommend trying the CD version, with a CD-ROM drive. For some yet unknown reason over the past 5-6 years, numerous issues have been recorded in multiple forums, trying to install various versions of different Linux OS'es, and in many of those cases the cause was the DVD drive. In fact I just had an issue loading Freespire 2.0.8 on one of my computers, and it turned out to be a DVD drive issue, so using the CD drive was an easy fix with a positive outcome.
That is not to say you can never use the DVD drive, just that it seems to be a cause of many issues installing. My DVD drive has installed several version of Linux, it only acted up on this one particular Ubuntu based version of Freespire. A search of the Internet showed it was a known bug. _________________ If you aint got nothin, you got nothin to loose. |

But how do you fit Xandros which is over 1 GB in size onto a 700 MB CD???
Dont have any blank CD's larger than that.
Sorry for my noob question
Easy explanation on the answer I am still learning.
File compression?
If so how-to? |

Didnt you notice the 665MB "xandros-45OCE-kenux.iso"?
CD version of Xandros-4.5/EeePC-SDK DVD including latest
updates, with themes, tools and NTFS write support added.
But without office applications and development tools. _________________ Linux User #432929

Downloaded xandros-45OCE-kenux.iso and burned the .iso slooooow 1X
Tried to install and get to 2% complete and then the dreaded warning message again.
I am at a loss as to why the data error. The CDRW-DVDR drive is new and I
Used a CD-R disk.
The DVD of 4.0 installs with no problems using this drive.
I have now made three brand new coasters for my drinks. Cant afford to keep wasting CDR disks
Any suggestions? |

Install an "md5sum" tool, to verify if you burned coasters.
Try all available boot options (press space key), including
the "express" and "custom" installs. _________________ Linux User #432929

4.5 OCE up and running,thanks
No sound during start-up, login or out though!!!
Volume is not muted so I tried a test and start-up sound plays fine and loud.
However I cannot get any .WAV files notifications to play and I hear nothing when I start-up or log in or out? |
