Does "XD 4.5" really work on old "Compaq Armada 7400" laptops?
With "Intel Pentium-II" 366MHz CPU, 64MB RAM and 10GB HDD?
.

The slowest machine I have it on is a Compaq n400c 800mhz with 512mb of ram it it works really well as long as you stay away from 3D screensavers and games.

That could depend on the video driver.

Anyhow, have you tried the CD-version yet? If so - does it work? Had to update "Fuse"
libraries on it to get "NTFS-3G" working properly, plus including some extra packages
getting themeing working also on "GTK" applications.

Realized the original repository hierarchy was complicated.
Changed it. Each application is now placed in its own folder
(similar to XN), except "libs", "updates" and "xandros".
Code:
accessories
development
drivers
education
emulators
games
graphics
internet
libs
multimedia
office
supplemental
system
updates
utilities
xandros

Let me know when you have completed all of your uploads, and I'll build the needed files and provide the repository link for everyone to enjoy. Cool

I haven't had a chance to try the new CD version I will do so either later today or tomorrow.
I doubt any drivers will be able to get an ATI Mobility M1 with 8-MB SDRAM to do 3D but if you have any ideas I am willing to try it out.

My mistake I thought I had 4.5 on the 400c but it wasn't it was 4.1. 4.5 doesn't have an apm option all I managed to do was overheat the system. I will try the CD on something else when I have a bit of time.

...ATI Mobility M1 with 8-MB SDRAM...

Theres two "ATI" driver modules included with "XD 4.5":
xandros-ati-fglrx-module-2.6.24-smp (version 1:8.2.0.8.455.2.x.1-1)
xserver-xorg-video-ati (version 1:6.6.3-2)

The later one might support your card - If not, only "Vesa" is usable.

Quote:
...4.5 doesnt have an apm option...

And these "APM" modules:
acpi (version 0.09-1)
apmd (version 3.2.2-8.1)
libapm1 (version 3.2.2-8.1)
powermgmt-base (version 1.29)
xserver-xorg-video-apm (version 1:1.1.1-3)

In "Control Center" theres the "Power Management" option,
but when trying "APM" commands within "Console", this
message appears: "No APM support in kernel". Hmm...

The uploads will never be completed! But theres already 119 files, 69 folders and 490MB*
of applications, tools and themes right now in "xd45apt" folder, so lets make it all available.
Its always possible to add more later...

*= small part of it is made for "XD 4.5", while other are "Etch" compatible. But theres also
some applications, that works on "XD 4.0-4.2".

Yeah on a lot of older Compaqs the ACPI is flakey, when I install Xandros 4 there is a custom install option that says use APM and this usually works on these systems. It may be possible to do an install and input pci=noacpi or I may have to run the older setup and see exactly what the command line says and see if 4.5 will install with those options. If not there is always 4.1 it works well.

I may take the oppurtunity to check out some of the smaller distros like Puppy to see how they are coming along.

I'll need to perform some work on it this weekend before it's ready to go.
We will also need to test it to make sure all of the dependencies are met. Smile

Did you change the ATI drivers from what Xandros released? I ask because on my main laptop under the original 4.5 I recieved 800fps under glxgears under the CD version I am getting 1300+.

No - all drivers are untouched. Used the "live.img" dated "2008.04.24" and
packages "2008.03.03", plus latest updates from "XN", to fix some issues.
Only "non-Etch" change, is the newer "Fuse" to get "NTFS-3G" to work.
