| Hi, I am new to the forum ,linux and Xandros. I have installed Xandros 3.0 on an old Thinkpad. This model (R51) has the Conexient modem. Since I don't have a modem and the wireless won't work without drivers, I need to down load them to disk and burn the packages to cd. Is there a way to do this in XN? I have a main desktop system that has Xandros with a working modem and an XN connection. I don't need these packages on that system but need to move them to the laptop. I don't have access to a hard wired network to connect the laptop to XN. I have searched the forum without finding any info on this subject. Any help getting this working will be appreciated. Thanks |

Marsh you could just plug it into the network ,use the wired port to get what you need for wireless. Once completed disconnect and stay wireless. _________________ Running on many systems, multi booting up to 5 Linux OSs on a demo machine, started when it was Coral Linux. XN does not save packages it downloads after they are installed. There is another program you can use to download and install packages, and it will save them. Install the package manager synaptic, and using synaptic, install the packages you need on the other computer, then look in /var/cache/apt/archives, and the files should be saved there. Then you can burn them to a CD and transfer them to another computer.

Im using "Xandros Networks", "Synaptic Packet Manager", "Aptitude" and "Console".
Again. The downloaded files in "/var/cache/apt/archives" must be copied during install
when "XN" is used, because those are immidelity deleted when install is done. Ihe other
packet managers keeps the files. _________________ Linux User #432929

| Forgive me for being stupid but I'm coming from the windows world. When you "install" does that mean the drivers are mounted or are they just loaded into the system. The reason being my desktop system is working perfectly and I don't want to overwrite the existing system files. Although, since I'm not using wireless on the desktop, it probably doesn't matter. |
