What video card do you have? Xandros 3 with sp2 should be using v1.0.7174 of nvidia's drivers, are they not working properly for you?

The instructions you are following from NVIDIA are intended for installing their driver into an unsupported kernel:

However, Xandros already includes and supports the NVIDIA drivers in their kernel; following the NVIDIA instructions may mess things up. As Davepet said, try the Xandros-included NVIDIA driver, and let the forum know if it does not work. |

OK. I need to run Nvidia 1.0-7676. I've tried to insert it into the kernel as per the instructions in the thread http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=11225 but my computer will never reboot into "X". This is true with all debian based distros I've tried--not just Xandros.
How do I update the kernel to the more recent Nvidia drivers? My video card is a Nvidia G-Force 6200, driving an Apple 20" Cinema Display at 1680x1050.
I've updated the kernel in SuSE 10. beta 3 and it works fine. There has to be a way to do it in Xandros. |

I recently made the mistake of installing the recommended NVIDIA@ GeForce 6200 driver update from XN onto my Dell Inspiration running XN 4.2 -that's 2 as in downloaded less than 2 months and it crashed Xandros. Now, when I get to the login setup, it's all text. I can put my user name into the text, and then my password. They are both accepted. But guys, I like pictures. If there are no pictures, I am almost lost. Can someone help me return to the blue login/desktop screen of hope please!!??

Can you boot into safe video mode & see what control center thinks it's using for a video driver? _________________

I booted into troubleshooting, and tried to repair, then into safe mode, saw the console and was intimidated. So, I reinstalled xandros. Now I am downloading programs. Thanks anyway for your help _________________ they say -that in the past the Earth froze over completely for ten million years... then warmed up rapidly about 600 million years ago. MacUser- You might be better served by downloading Xandros 4.0 OCE.. It has been difficult to find as of late, but there are still places available linked on this site.. _________________

I appreciat you guys' help. This is by far the most helpful forum that I have ever participated in.
Just want to show my ignorance. Why do I need it? What I have is working fine. XN says that it is a recommended upgrade for everyone and that is why I downloaded it to start with. _________________ they say -that in the past the Earth froze over completely for ten million years... then warmed up rapidly about 600 million years ago. Star88- You should be good to go actually.. The update covers certain 6200 cards with a non-standard pcimap.. If your card is working fine, it is not necessary, since it only adds the entry for those 6200 cards.. That being said, it won't hurt anything if it is installed. It doesn't add anymore functionality to cards already supported by that driver. _________________
