I think its a total rip-off that Xandros 4 open circulation users have to pay up and join the Xandros Networks, just so they can download and install such programs as Scribux, Quanta Plus etc. I can understand games like Quake and Doom etc, but not scribus.
The only reason Im trying Xandros is because its the only distro to auto see my wireless card, and as a newbie I dont have the technical expertise needed for such distros as FC6.
Unless anyone here knows of a good user guide that tell you how to install software via the terminal (apt-get I think) and how to add repos.

I also forgot to mention. What makes it worse is that FC6 and Ubuntu have the software in their repos, and even openly tell you how to download / install. IE yum install *****, and its released as FREE anyway, so why is Xandros charging ???
I only hope that FC7 and Ubuntu 7.04 have drivers for my wireless card, if they do them Im gone, otherwise Im stuck with Xandros untill I have £27-£28 to cough up, which Id more-than-likely object to.

There are some Linux distributions that cost a few bucks and others
that you gets for free. Some are usable while others are not.

Many agrees that Xandros also should be available totally for free.
But without income, who will then pay all workers at Xandros?
And without those, no Xandros!

Anyway, with a little search you will find most applications for free.

Hi phillipchandler, and Welcome to Xandros, and to the friendliest forums on the web. You will find a lot of good knowledgeable people here who will bend over backwards to help you solve any problems you may encounter. Just remember, they are all volunteers, answering questions and solving problems on their own time, without pay, so treat them nicely. There are a number of repositories and download sites available which are loaded with apps configured specifically for Xandros, which are known to work, and won't break your system. Remember, that while Xandros is based on Debian, it includes a lot of tweaks which make it uniquely Xandros. If you try installing programs from Debian sites which have not been compiled for your particular build of Xandros, you are very likely to hose your system. My favorite site for Xandros downloads is geekydude's Geek Connection site, which is fast becoming a one-stop shopping mall for programs and goodies compiled just for Xandros. Check it out. You'll want to bookmark it for future reference, because new stuff is being added all the time, and as you live and work with Xandros, you will discover things you'd like to have that you may not be aware of today. Be sure you are in the correct section for your version of Xandros OCE, either X3 or X4, as programs built for other versions may not work properly on your version. Geeky's site is here:

my main concern is that it has taken a lot of time to get we are now and if i re-install the os again i will have to spend days getting it running again as it was before ...

Well, let's start with what repositories you've tried so far? Some repositories can cause problems. Also how many did you enable at one time?
