I finally decided to try ASUS/Xandros with the EeePC 901. From the fresh install ( factory ) ... everything looks fine, but then the upgrades come into play. Everything has an upgrade waiting. I think this is v1.6 OS. The problem is that the first SSD is at 4GB, and won't fit all the "required" upgrades. ! And I have a 16GB SSD ! that just used as /home - sitting there mostly empty at 3%. ASUS Support kind of said tough - go back to Factory - turn everything OFF - don't allow any downloads - and pick very carefully what you might think you "need". That isn't any fun. I realize it IS a netbook, but thought I'd be able to grow the OS more than just Factory. Is there a way to merge the two SSD(s) ? Can I mount a partition on /dev/sdb1 as /usr ? The first SSD is /dev/sda1 . I guess I could have two partitions on the 16GB SSD, so I'd be trying to mount /dev/sdb2 . [ thinking on keys ]
? What could my Options be ? I really thought the Linux 901 would be far better than the Windows XP 901. I have tried Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Moblin, and Dell/Moblin/Ubuntu. Most of these Linux OS(s) like to live way larger than 4GB ~ more like on 16GB SDHC(s) ... that's where I thought Xandros would be different on the EeePC 901/Linux.
Thanks ... I see that this subject is old, but I had the perfect chance to get my hands on this EeePC this week ... and I'd like to use it as part of my Resources. |
