| Friends, help me install the proper driver (filter) on 2 Xandros V4 computers, running AMD Athlon 64 in a home-built and an Acer 3050 notebook with Vista Basic and a Sempron CPU. I have read through a lot of the posts here as well the "manual" and see that according to the hardware compatibility supposedly this is a cakewalk install. Not! I am finding that that either the softwarre is not allowing me to install or it's just not printing. After a lot of research I have the Canon Pixma Ip1000 led telling me that that itr is receiving data,i.e. blinking after I give it a print command, but nothing comes out. This is all quite frustrating! I admit I am new to Linux and a lot of things are new and strange from Windows, but this just shouldn't be that difficult. I have the canon 8600 driver installed with the 2.5 bjfilters, etc. WhaT CONCERNS ME IS THAT AFTER FIGHTING WITH THIS NOW FOR 2 WEEKS IS THAT A POST IN MAMBO SAYS THAT THIS PRINTER IS NOT USABLE WITH amd64 PROCESSORS. Any ideas, I am open to all? |

Hi casaduana, Let me welcome you to Xandros, and especially to the very friendly and helpful Xandros Forums. I know next to nothing about getting printers to work in Xandros. My only experience in this area was plugging in my HP, and finding that it "just works", but I am sure someone with real answers will be along shortly. The forums are in flux today, and many of the helpful and knowledgable folk are thinking of abandoning ship, in the wake of todays announcement that Xandros has signed a mutual non-agression pact with Nazi Germ.....er I mean Microsoft. Sorry, I am old, and sometimes have problems telling one repressive, totalitarian regime from another. Ben _________________

Thanks for the kind reply, Papabearak. I guess I have picked a bad tiime to try to solve this through the X forum. As far as the mutual relationship goes, history showed that a bad non-alliance was made by the Soviets with Nazi Germany. If our friends up north are true to their past they will screw over X.
I still am looking for a solution to using the Canon IP1000 as network printer accessible through the windows wireless network. Maybe someone else can come to the rescue. |

You will need to use the drivers from Canon for this.

Not sure where they have them posted.
As an alternative you can check out TurbPrint which provides very good drivers not normally supported under Linux.

| This is where I have to start by confessing stupidity or similar mental deficiency. I have visited both sites on many occasions over the past two weeks. I have downloaded and installed the factory drivers and can say they do not work on AMD64 machines, and this is supported by a number of sites. Moreover, and here is where I feel that I am probably in the wrong, but I cannot for some reason get the Turboprint download to install. They have instruction for a lot of systems but nothing seems to get to install for me. Can you give me detailed instructions of exactly which of the Turboprint files to download and then exactly what to do with correct one to install it, because eveerything I try keeps coming back as can't find the bin or can't execute the bin. Help! |
