Beyond the Xandros and "Debian Unsupported" repositiories, what are the one or two additional repos that people recommend for keeping the Xandros system current? I read about Geekconnection, Matty, Redrum, Archlug, XOID, etc. in many postings, and it's enough to make one's head spin! I'm looking for stability and reliability, but with a little more "currentness" than the standard XN system provides.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! DR

Add these lines, either in Xandros Networks or by directly editing the /etc/apt/sources.list file:

Code:
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 archlug
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 redrum
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 xorid/andrew
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 xorid/matty
deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 xorid/uploads
deb http://www.geekconnection.org xandros4 main

The only thing I can add is that it pays to keep these additional repositories disabled except when you're going to use them. Updating XN with all of them or most of them enabled can seriously bollix your system.

The mplayer you need is probably the one in the geekconnection repo ... worked for me.

See this page:

http://geekconnection.pbwiki.com/How+to+install+Mplayer

I haven't tried it, but the GeekConnection is a "usually reliable source"!

Right you are! It worked for me for the first time. I must have been trying to install Mplayer from one of the other repos..........

A little complicated, especially for a Monday night, but it's done. Thanks much! DR

Just so you know, The geek Connection repository has everything in the other repositories and then some.

It's an attempt to solve your head-spinning problem by having what everybody has in one repository. Razz

I will be editing that wiki when I have some time to relect the much easier way of just adding the repository and installing it.

One mor thing you may find of interest, is a nice package of skins for mplayer also located in the Geek Connection repository.

If you'd like a nice how-to of adding repositories, please check out this wiki:

http://geekconnection.pbwiki.com/Supported+And+Unsupported+Source+Repositories+for+Xandros

I wrote these two wikis this morning...
sorry I didn't get it to you sooner! Confused

"Xandos Networks" is an nice tool when you have few repositories in use.
With 3-4 or more "Synaptic Packet Manasger" offers better visual control over
what you are doing. Using over 20 repositories in "source.list" myself without
any problems. "Synaptic" also have the usable "History Tracking" when there
is need of reversing installations or updates. It seems complicated at first look.
But its basic functions are easy to learn and use. Which is all you need...

Read whatever review you want, most praises "Synaptic" and its benefits,
altough some users on this forum dont agree about that Twisted Evil ...

I appreciate your hard work, Geekydude! I think your idea of having the geekconnection site take the place of a bunch of others is a good one, at least for less expert folks. Simplicity is a good thing!

Thanks to all for the suggestions........... DR
