I have tried to install 4.1 pro home but keep getting cd image not found and it then aborts.

I tried some other sugestions but on the list there is no custom install only the following.
Default setup, restore xandros, Rescue consul, internatuional setup, Vesa mode setup, 256 color setup, text mode boot setup acpi 1 to 4 setup and apm setp 1 to 4.

They all have the same except some alteration on the lat item on the line for booting.
/boot/vmlinuz vga=791 quiet intrid=/boot/intrid.gz root=.dev/ram0 rw acpi=on inthis section is the part for each in the list .

getting pissed of has anyone got any ideas as to the problem last chance on this or will sell cds or chuck em in the bin.
easier on gates

popsad. What hardware do you have? Motherboard, brand, model
and hardisk/s, ATA and/or SATA? Did you try all different BIOS settings
for the harddrives?

And have you contacted Xandros Support about the issue?

Machine is an e-system running
2gb ram
Motherboard is an
ECS 716gx-m754
hard Drive is an
Seagate 120 gb
Board has a sis 964 chipset
Graphics card is an
ATI radion x550 pci express
Pionnear dvd/cd rd/rw combo drive 110D
Firewire card and i aint taking that out for the make or model

Pulled down the small iso file from xandros to load before cd1, also tried loading from cd2 still no luck

Tried looking for a custom install none there
bios has always been set on every machine i have as soon as i get one to boot from cd, unless there is a bios setting that i need to other than the obvious one.

Any advise on this is much appreciated been running windows since ????????????????????????? that long even beta testing xp/and then vista. Been trying linux out over the last 5 years but never found one i like yet untill now.

Good for me as i can dual boot as i need to use xp for video editing and encoding as well as slideshows, as so far i everything i have tried to use on linux is not as powerfull as studio 11 or winavi nor as good, fed up with command line stuff had enough of for years now xandros is as close to exe file installation as u can get

Many thanks for any advise u can give me

Forgot the most important Question: "What does 4.1 pro home mean"?

There have been following versions released:
Xandros 4.0 Home/Home Premium/Home Premium Trial with kernel 2.6.15 and
4.1 Professional/Professional Trial/Home Premium/Home/OCE with kernel 2.6.18.

Usually 4.1 installs when 4.0 dont. But sometimes its vice versa.

Which one do you really have? Check this in "volinfo.txt" on installation CD
using an filemanager. Or on an installed system in "KDE Control Center".

Didnt find your motherboard with an quick Google search. But try to adjust BIOS
settings for RAID/none RAID for the IDE and SATA drives and see if that helps.

Home Premium

Bios setting already done

Still not installing, went out to friends house today to try and install it on their machines, 3 machines same problem, but got a email from a friend that lives not far from me and he has 4.0 home pro so i went to see him tried it on his machine no install.

Brought his 4.0 home pro and guess what it installed no problems so i phoned the supplier that i got it from, it has now been sent back for a refund and according to him quiet a few people have had the same problems on 4.1.

But beside that when i was booting up the 4.0 home pro no problems only when when i run the updates for sp1 then when i reboot i get 2 lines showing a problem, i have seen this in this forum so ill need to look for it again.

many thanks for ur help

Much appreciated

Xandros isnt clear enough about its versions and this leads
to many misunderstandings. OCE (free) and Home are basic
versions. Premium and Professional contains extra software.

Version 4.0 contains kernel 2.6.15 and xorg 6.9 and can be
upgraded to 4.1 after its installed with Service Pack 1.

Version 4.1 have kernel 2.6.18 and xorg 7.1 (=containing
all updates in SP1).

Installation issues with 4.0/kernel 2.6.15 are usually solved
by using the newer 4.1/kernel 2.6.18 version instead. In some
rare hardware cases its been 4.0 which installed. The issue is
probably related to kernel or hardware detection BUG/S.

The free & gratis (OCE), Xandros 4.1/kernel 2.6.18 is available from:

I have the exact same problem. There is reference to this issue on the Xandros website, where they claim it is due to a conflict with recent Intel chips on the motherboard. They also supply a seperate image for download which should be used to boot the computer prior to inserting the installation CD.
This image made absolutely no difference for me, but you could always give it a try.

If you are installing Xandros 4.1 OCE....

It's a DVD, not a CD.
Any chance that is the problem?
