Geekydudes website provides a lot of Xandros-specific stuff, eye-candy, multimedia, and a bunch of stuff salvaged from archlug. You'll definitely want to bookmark it:

http://www.geekconnection.org/downloads.htm

Make sure you are in the X4 area, because he has some X3 stuff as well, and it may be incompatible. Ben

You can get kmplayer and ftp clients from XN. I have gftp and krusader installed. Enable expert in view you will see more. the easiest is to use search in XN to find things.

Download and create a directory to unpack (if compressed) software.

Mplayer from http://www.geekconnection,org are 4 normal DEB files.

Then:
1) start "Xandros Networks" (XN)
2) chose "Edit" (in XN)
2.1) chose "Install DEB File..."
3) select preferred "Mplayer" files
3.1) click "Open" (button) and it installs.

You need having "Xandros Distribution Site" enabled. Some software
need dependies from "Debian Unsupported site"
. If getting errors like
"broken packages". Open "Console" with Administrator (rights) and
type "apt-get -f install" and hit "enter". That should normally fix
those errors.

There are scenarios when using software from other repositories
that need dependies that are not available from Xandros servers.
Then these must be searched elsewhere, but that could also give
more errors and problems. One repository that usually works is
http://www.backports.org/debian/README.mirrors.html

OK, finally got mplayer & plugin working. Got Amarrok 1.2 running, no luck on 1.4

Now, can I get a listing of Debian based repositories to add to XN? When I used Xan3, I had about 2 dozen listed in XN. That HDD died however and need to start over.

Thanks Doctore,

Things are fine now. Personally, I think they should have a "sticky" listing all repos in this section so folks don't have to hunt all over.

I've posted the proper how-to in a wiki and linked the instructions on the download page.

Hopefully, installation will go much smoother in the future. Smile

ArchLUG is back online. The DNS entries were replaced when the domain expired without my knowledge or notification.

To prevent this, add this to your /etc/hosts file:
Code:
209.16.204.19   uml.archlug.org www.archlug.org archlug.org

Sorry about the inconvenience. And kudos for GeekyDude for stepping up and mirroring ArchLUG (although the timing was bad since ArchLUG was effectively "down" due to the DNS problems).

If GeekyDude wants to setup an RSYNC mirror with ArchLUG, I'd be glad to setup a mutual rsync.

I think it's a great idea!

One can never provide enough resources nowa days. Wink

Please email me at the email address listed on my site, and we can work out the details.

Thanks, Mike! Razz
