| i update my xandros because i couldn't get the the modem to connection now after the upgrade it see my modem but will not dial in to the isp the modem is a usr 5686e according to usr website it should work with xandros any help guys |

| ha guys i would like to say thanks for wll the posting in this BBS it has help me a lot the usr modem i had and paid $90 (2 days old)was useless to me never could get it to work so i guess i will have to eat that one but i did go and get a BEST DATA 56K modem for around $55 that work Great from Frys electronics they was the only ones i could fine that had a modem the would work can you believe that in a city as big dallas |

I don't know why the USR modem wouldn't work, did you try to set it up using the connection wizard? If not, what did you try?
Most controller-based modems just work in any version of Linux.

yes dave i did try the connection wizard still wouldn't work even when to USR web site downloaded the plugin for the modem, talk to tech support at USR and still wouldn't work even went to xandros website done everthing that it said even look at other BBS website on this and no help i may hang on to the modem i not sure what i am going to do with it at this time. Also look at pass email that i got before from here(this website) and no help
but i do have one thing that i am going working on is a iomega zip drive 100 i havn't found any driver that will work yet i have found one site that said some of the windows drivers will work (iomega website) but they didn't tell which one will work XPpro,XP,95.98,98se,DOS ect...
i am waiting for a wireless network to come here because i only have dailup here so i can put it on weireless it should fly on the internet they tell me it will have the speed of 2G |

paralell zip i look at this site also dave also this site which is under the support page in USR website: [url]http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5686e[/url] and down loaded the flasher, flasher checksum, controlcenter, now i didn't download the phone tool tach support @ USR said that the flasher should work but it didn't that ok my wife is getting into linux and she has her own PC right now with Xp on it i can always use it on her PC if she wants to change it to linux she said she like Xandros

| hear's something dave i went down to a computer store near here and the guy in the store said he has beem getting more and more people getting away from microsoft windows because of the BS they are having to deal with |

Did you get any error messages? Did the wizard see the modem at all? _________________
