Hi folks.
I have a Tektronix Phaser 560 color printer. Does anyone know how I can get this to work using the network card installed. I have purchased a crossover patch cable and so far have had no luck in getting it to work. I have set the address and subnet but still no resullts. Would appreciate any and all help. I am running Xandros 4.0.

Thanks,

Glenn AC4RB

Not familiar with your Printer but Have you taken these steps..?

1. First Install the Printer directly to the computer as a Local Printer and see if it works.

2. If 1. works then Install again as Network Printer to work out issues..

Thanks for the quick reply Sqlpython. This is a color laser printer it does have a parallel port but the connector is a miniture 37 pin centronics and I don't have an adaptor or parallel cable. I can program the printer from the front and give it both an IP address and a subnet. I also found that I need to give it a name of AUTO (all uppercase) in the setup. I haven't tried this since I just found this out a few hours ago. It is now connected to my computer via a crossover network cable with RJ45s on each end. By the way, I couldn't set it up on Windoze 2000 either.

Thanks again for the speedy reply.

You really want to check it out on a direct parallel connect first.. get an adapter they are cheap.. Otherwise you are making a lot of assumptions regarding LINUX compatibility issues.

You can probably install it on a socket by IP address ...
supposing it has an IP of 192.166.2.101 then ipp://192.166.2.101 would be the location..
First Plug in the Crossover to the Printer / Computer connecting them.
Now frome the printer control Panel can you assign an IP address to the Printer..
If not You will have to find a way to get an IP address to it.
Perhaps by attaching both the Printer and The Computer to a Hub or switch that in turn is attached to a DHCP router which assigns each Network device an IP address..
..If you can assign an IP manually at the Printer then be sure it has the same first three sets of Numbers in the IP as the COmputer and the last group is between 1 and 254 and that this last set is not the same as any other device's number..
Example Router is 192.166.2.1..Computer is 192.166.2.105..PRINTER is 192.166.2.108

If perhaps in your setup the Rouiter or DHCP has assigned an IP and you don't know what it is this supposing that you Domain is named workgroup.
In a command console
nmblookup workgroup
...You will get a list with the IPs and their Names. Find your Printer named AUTO
...wirte down it's IP
If it doesn't show up then alternatively type just
nmblookup
...now there is a list of IPs without names..Do elimination of Knowns the one left is AUTO
..write if down
With this IP we can add the Network Printer in a socket..
...Ping the found number to see if it works..
Tektronix Phaser 740 is the closest matching Printer and Should work..
Launch / Control Center / Peripherals / Printers /Add
Choose Network...Next
Choose Other .. GIve it a Name you like ..doesn't matter what
...Connection type IPP Internet Printing Protocol
Click Find .. Click Scan .. Choose your Printers IP from list
Next
Printer choose Textronic .. Model Phaser 750D ..((You may have to try each 750)
Next .. and try a test Print..
...If it doesn't work try another Phaser Model

Sqlpython,
I really appreciat this. I haven't had time to try it yet and probably will
not be able to until a week or so. I am going on a trip which will take about a week. Will try when I get back and let you know.

Thanks again,

Your Welcome.
I described a method commonly used to install Network printers not attached to a unix or win machine. This may work for you but the Printer has to have an IP address assigned..
Make sure it is pingable.. See if you can borrow a parallel adapter to test the print driver directly attached because........
You may have to Try each and every Phaser driver as there is not a 500 series listed per se' ....

Post back results.
Have a safe trip.
