|
|
OK, I'm completely new to Linux and I have no idea where to start. My son wants me to install the Tibia Linux Client to run on Xandros, but I have No clue how to install this, or access it once it's installed.
Here's the link to the client:

Hi juanfermin
Well, first let me welcome you to the friendliest forum on the net... really!
One of the wonderful things about this forum is that, mostly, the folks that come here have maybe one or two problems and they can then just sit back and enjoy Xandros...
And the other wonderful thing is .....all the enjoyment we get trying to help with all the wonderful things that people want to do with Xandros...
The tibia game is a first, at least for me, so...uintil either I or someone else downloads what is, presumeably, a relatively complete game, using the Xandros OS....we won't be much help...
BUT...... the site isn't very specific about the system one uses, at least in a cursory look through....
The wikipedia article on it DOES say that it is "linux" compatible....
Problem is that Linux is divided into a couple of "streams"....and Xandros is in the "Debian" stream....
That means it will be looking for certain file types with which to interact...
Someone, myself, or someone else will probably try to download the appropriate packages and see how they act...I'm on a work Windblows machine right now... so it may take a day or so....
however, if the "packages" are "Debian".....they should say so....
AND...with 50,000 players online NOW....I would think that they would have catered to the various linux distros.....
if a Deb, or RPM package is available it SHOULD...just install, using Xandros Networks....a coupla clicks and it should go...
HOWEVER, the site said that a graphics accelerated video card is required for Linux, and I would assume that your son would know that and would have the card....
so...give us a short while, and keep checking back...
INTERESTING!!!
ain't XANdros grEAT!

I looked at the site. I has a Linux package for libc6, which is the one Xandros 4 has. You would have to follow the directions on the download page: extract the file into a folder you create and probably there is something inside the package that will run. This is my assumption from the nature of the directions on the Tibia page. If this does not make it run you may have to do a binary install, which is bit more complicated. Why not download and extract and try to run it and see what happens?
You may have to R click on the file and change properties to 'execute' for your username. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

You could also download this package I built, double-click it to install it, open a console and type tibia to start the game...

Wow,
I'm impressed with the community response here!!! I'm not sure if that computer has an accelerated video card, it was a converted Win98 Machine, (after it crashed I couldn't find the original disks to reinstall) but I could probably get a cheap video card for it and resolve that issue. In the meantime I'm going to install Xandros on another machine that does have a 3D card and try out that .DEB file, thanks again and Wow, did I say Wow!!?? |
