|
|
The following web site may be useful for linux users with current Epson printers. It is an english language page on the Japanese Epson web site, but it appears to have some drivers as yet unavailable in US/Europe.
I've used the C87/C88/D88 driver from this site and it worked perfectly.

Yeah, it's a keeper.
I added the site to my Linux -> Printer folder on my BookMarks/Foxfire.

That site is also where you get your Linux drivers for Epson scanners.
I've also found that the RPM's install just fine with XN if they don't have a DEB available. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

I used this site for my Epson Stulux CX4800. Used XN to load to install the rpm.
I selected CX4700 in the control panal after install. Printer works great.
FYI.
To get the scanner to work. I did the following:
use Xandros File Manager to open the file /etc/sane.d/epson.conf:
add the the line usb 0x04b8 0x0819
Everything works !!! |

I'm a newbe to Linux, at least reasonably so. I am looking to migrate from Windows to Linux, specifically, Xandros - least blood for me....
I have an Epson R260 and have downloaded the driver from the ava site. Now how do I install it? Again, I know a few Linux commands and I can navigate around in the command line..... |

First thing is to make sure you have downloaded either a deb or a rpm, deb is perferred. Go to the place you download it and right click on it then click on open with other, a fly should give the option of Xandros Network, Click it and XN will open click install then your admin password. Let XN do it thing then click done. That's it _________________ [img]http://img406.imag

I didn't see a driver for that model. Which one did you download? I could download it and have a look at it and figure out what you need to do.

Interesting that they have two very similar pages, with very similar URLs, and one of them lists that printer, and one does not.
Jack Merskin, I would go to this page:
http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_ink.html
and click on the link that says:
pipslite-cups-1.0.0-1.i386.rpm
Save the file to wherever is convenient. Then start Xandros Networks, and click File, Install RPM file, and navigate to and select the RPM file you just downloaded. Xandros Networks will convert it to a DEB file and install it.
In the installation process, these messages appeared in Xandros Networks:
| Quote: | Install Message > Start /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/setup to change setup.
Install Message > Start /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/pipslite-install to make ppd file. |
Open an Administrator Console [click Launch, Applications, System, Administrator Tools, Console (Administrator)] and enter the Admin/root password when it asks for it. In the console that opens up, enter this command:
| Code: | | /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/setup |
I just hit Enter to accept the defaults. When it asks
| Quote: | | Setup is complete. Is it saved? |
I think it's really asking you if you want to save it. I entered Yes.
Next enter this command in console:
| Code: | | /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/pipslite-install |
I did not go any further than that, because a message popped up that said to make sure the printer is connected to the computer and turned on, and I don't have any Epson printer! I'm guessing there shouldn't be anything difficult in what follows if you continue.
I'm not sure if there is more to do after that or not. It may be necessary to add the printer to CUPS after you run the pipslite-install command. If so, go back to the page you downloaded the RPM file from, and click on the link for: "Installation method . . . Please refer to the readmelite-cups"
This is the portion of it I think you may need to do:
| Quote: | (1) Connect to CUPS Server(Port:631) from browser
* (EX.)
When CUPS is on the localhost, access to "http://localhost:631/"
(2) Choose "Manage Printers"
(3) Choose "Add Printer"
(4) Enter a printer setting name in "Name", and choose "Continue"
(set other items if required)
(5) Set "EPSON Inkjet Printer #1 (Photo Image Print System)" for "Device",
and choose "Continue"
(6) Set "EPSON" for "Make", and choose "Continue"
(7) Set "Photo Image Print System Lite (en)" for "Model",
and choose "Continue"
(Ex. : Set "Photo Image Print System PM-A950 (en)" for "Model" when
setting for PM-A950 printer) |
You'll just need to open your favorite browser and enter:
| Code: | | http://localhost:631 |
in the address window, then follow the instructions above.
If your printer still doesn't work at that point, perhaps there is someone here who has that printer or a similar printer who can give you further instruction.
