OK. I know that archlug is down and appears to have been for a bit now. Here's what I want to figure out how to do: Mirror it or just offer an identical repository site - whichever will afford the greatest up-time and least dependence upon whether archlug is up or down.
Here's what I have: A desktop PC with Xandros (& other Linuxes installed) with 1.0Ghz CPU, 640Mb RAM and a willingness to figure out how to set this up (with your help) and leave it on 24/7. The plan is to host this out of my home on my cable connection. However, I'd be willing to put the files up on my hosted domain, which would offer (probably) a faster connection and guaranteed up-time. My only concern is whether this would start hitting my pocketbook due to bandwidth consumption, but currently my web site is still under construction and getting nearly no traffic anyway.
So, my preference would be host it out of my home, but if that isn't possible, then I'd be willing to put it on my hosted domain. What prompted this? I'm trying to set up Xandros on my brother-in-law's PC for him to try out and see if he likes it (& then convert him into a sale for Xandros) and I need to install Win32Codecs, at the least. Since archlug is down, not currently possible - and since from some other posts it sounds like there are some personal things happening to the guy who hosts archlug, it doesn't sound like it'll be back up soon.
I have never hosted anything out of my home before. So, I'll need a little help with this. I am fairly sure that I will need to set up DDNS in my router and I think I can figure this out on my own, but setting everything up to accomodate downloading will be a bit trickier.
Thanks! |

Did ask similar question and got an reply:
http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=30102
Coldnt figure out how to use any FTP-program to download entire http:// repositories.
So used some "handwork" with "2X Xandros Filemanagers" instead and downloaded all
packages separately: clanfoss.net, geekconnection.org, vogelefamily.info, xandros4pkg,
xandros.or.id. Xandros Supported Site was about 1.5GB. The other was about 600MB of
downloads... Will do the same procedure as soon as archlug gets up and running.
But will not download Xandros Debian unsupported because its about the same as
Debian Sarge repositories. Dont have any possibilty or capacity to mirroring those
at the moment,. Could think of zip those or something similar to send to you if you
are serious to mirroring these sites. Tell me if there is interest. Can mail you later.
By the way, I love Windows ! It keeps me busy all day long ...

geekconnection.org also has the codecs DEB:
http://www.geekconnection.org/codecs/win32codecs_1.0.1_i386.deb
You might also want libdvdcss:
http://www.geekconnection.org/codecs/libdvdcss2_1.2.8.x.1-1_i386.deb
I agree, an ArchLUG backup would be nice. It's not down often, but we sure miss it when it is! I've heard Mike is very busy right now, but he'd probably be glad to talk to you about mirroring it when he has time.

| OK. Well, I will work on this as soon as I have time, which will probably be in a couple of weeks. I have my union's Spring party to go to 3/31 and then my parents are coming for a visit on 4/1. So, I probably won't have time this coming weekend, but I will work on it between times, too. Other than DDNS, what else do I need to do with my router to facilitate this? Or, should I just use my ISP's provided web space to do this? Or would it be better still to use my hosted domain? I need to get into the technical aspects of this and hopefully someone out there has done this before. At this point, I'm not too worried about being able to get the files. I think that will be the easy part. |

If you are lucky enought to have an ISP that allows hosting, you need to open Port 80 on your router and firewall for http hosting. I'm not sure whether the same port will work for ftp. Your ISP's provided webspace might work better, if you have the webspace there; your hosted domain might be the best route to take. It depends on the bandwidth you are allowed. _________________ B. | Well, my ISP doesn't say anywhere that I have a limited amount of bandwidth. I have Charter Communications. So, perhaps someone else has experience with this issue who also uses Charter and can enlighten me if I am incorrect. |

So then you need to find out whether they allow you to host on your own server. Mine does, but it's the only ISP in Toronto that does. _________________ B. Ross Ashley

I do not beleive Charter limits you in any way other than the standard bandwidth 'caps' that are set up on your cable modem profile.. If your router has dynamic DNS support, you can register with www.dyndns.org and have your web name resolve to your server, even when the IP changes. _________________

Here is an list of what I have of Archlug (mostly) stuff on my backup. It should
be XOS3 applications, but most work also in XOS4: Abiword, Akregator, Amarok,
Apollon, Baghira, Comix, Decorator, Eclipse-xorid, Faac, Firestarter, Flac, Gaim,
Gramps, Genealogy, Grip, Guarddog, Gwenview, K3B, K9Copy, KPhotobook,
KTorrent, Kasablanca, Krusader, KxDocker, MPlayer, Metal4KDE, QTParted,
Quanta+, Styleclock, VorbisTools, XMMSwma, aMSN, konversation, tooLAME.
And some others:
ClamTK, Knemo (RPM), Mailwasher.
Also some XOS4 applications:
KompoZer (RPM), ReZound, XaraLX.
Totally about 235MB. Which applications are of interest?

doctore,
Are you saying you physically have all of this stuff on your HD?
I might be wiling to help out, but it would be best if you emailed me about it to discuss how to accomplish this....
Please go to: http://www.geekconnection.org

Hello again GUIS and Commanders !
Asking if anyone have any XOS3 or XOS4 DEBS on your backup that
was available from ArchLUG before it went down. Also any XOS3 DEBS
from X.OR.ID?
Would be glad to know, when we are trying to restore as much as
possible of it.
I have already above mentioned and also cinelerra. At least I think
all was from ArchLUG.

Much of Archlug has now been made available on my website!
http://www.geekconnection.org/x3-downloads.htm
I've also added some more content for Xandros 4:

Thanks to Doctore for providing much of it! _________________ geekydude
