Something I have found (for us "newbies") is that there is no continuity with Linux. It's all over the place, there are so many distro's, its like going to a smorgas board and standing there for ages wondering what to choose. So much info out there, it needs to be simplified in a typical format that makes it easy to understand and follow. without the babble, but with simple instruction. This is, I guess, why many people still use windows, for its "simplicity of use".
Scouring through all this information thru forums and other sites makes it tedious and time consuming for some I could imagine. It is for me anyway. Its more like a brain overload, but it is intruiging....
Thats my blab for the time being.... cheers all... _________________ Registered linux user #454306

I for one really appreciate that I can Search a forum or Google up a solution to almost any problem within minutes is just great...Can't do that to the same extent with Windows..

Yeah..simplicity..
My experience has been "Simply" call support and "Simply" take out a charge card.
and then "Simply pay for the answer that May or May Not solve the problem. _________________

Well, that would be nice, but it's completely impossible. As long as Linux remains open source, there will always be more versions than any normal human can demo.
While I view that as a tremendous waste of effort that could be better used in a cooperative manner to make a few dozen distros so superior that even MS drones would be switching, that is the way it is.
All the distros have strong & weak points. The trick is to identify your needs. How much is computing a hobby to you vs how much do you just want everything to work as expected?
With that answer in mind, limit yourself to 3-6 distros that sound like they'd do what you want. Ignore everything else. There is no such thing greener grass on the other side of the fence. Find one that feels good to start with & then if you hear of another that sounds good, give it a test if you feel like it....
That's my approach, for what it's worth.

I agree with dave as a technician who is studying linux I have a collection of over 120 different distros but I am an experienced user and can recommend different versions based on what someone wants.
if you are considering linux first write down what you want to do. then go to a site like linux guide or linux.org to review some distros.
linuxlinks.com will list a lot of distros and a brief description of them there you can click on the link to the website and download site as well.
distrowatch.com can give you a better review as well _________________ the only stupid question there is is the question that is not asked!
