I think I came up with a fix. I installed media connectvity add on and configured xine to play window media palyer and it works great so far. Xine has no problem playing wmv content. Oh, this was about viewing WMV content on websites from Firefox, so I guess I should have posted in Networking and Internet. Sorry

That fixed a lot of headaches for me.. the only difference
for me is configuring Connectivity to allow Real Player
for www.cbsnews.com and David Letterman's "comedy
clips" site.

Thanks a lot for posting about the Media Connectivity
addon.

I used CrossOver and installed IExplorer, WinMediaPlayer and Quicktime..In this way CrossOver Plugins are available to FireFox and it work well with MPlayer as an embedded Player.
But..
Having said that whenever I can I use RealPlayer as your do on CBS as it is a better choice then WinDoze anythind for a LINUX desktop.

Yeah, I don't want anything to do with Windows when I know that Linux is strong enough on its own.

If you don't mind:

1. How did you install mplayer? I saw the plugin in the experimental repository, but it says "broken packages" when I try to install it (probably because mplayer isn't available).

2. Is there a way to get xine to work with WMV files? It says it is missing some kind of file.

Thanks a bunch,

Dave67, I am pretty sure that Media Player 9 will not install under crossover directly, but I recall seeing a procedure here on the forums that tells how to update the Media Player 7 install you get by default from Crossover, to upgrade it to full Media Player 9 capabilities. I have not tried it, because Xine plays all the media I need to play, now that I have installed all the codecs, but if you are interested, search the forums, particularly the "Other Software" forum for references to Media Player 9. That should turn up the thread I saw. I will do a search and see if I can find it. If I can, I'll follow up by posting the link. Ben

Is this considered an upgrade? Should we delete/uninstall the
version we have now and then install that one?

I'm running v4 Pro & it was not set up by default to play video in Firefox. After installing Kevin's package most streams play fine (well as well as thy ever do on a 28.8 connection).

You'll likely get better info posting in the thread I linked to.

Dave
