|
|
Hi I am new and like Xandros so far, but I use my computer mostly for music. I have Xandros open circulation edition and the CD writer will only work at 2X. I don't see any program for ripping from CDs. I have quite a library on a external hard drive.
Can you recommend any good software for this kind of thing that will work on Xandros OCE?
I would like to rip and burn CDs. I am looking for something like Deep Ripper and Burner or AV Morpher, or a Linux type windows media player.
I like to work in MP3 best, but also use Audacity in wav. AV morpher will convert and burn in all including WMA.
Any Ideas? |

First off, welcome to Xandros.
The Xandros File Manager does an excellent job of ripping CD's. Set Windows to Four, highlight your CD/DVD-RW drive, select the tracks that you want to rip and drag them to your destination folder and XFM will rip them to a variety of formats. If you want to rip them to MP3, you will need to install the toolame package. Also a program called grip does a nice job of ripping CD's as well.
With regard to a CD burner, the KDE defacto standard is K3B and it will let you burn at max burner speed.
In order to install toolame, grip and K3B, go here and add the repositories listed for Xandros 3 to Xandros Networks.
You may also want to take a look at Amarok/Music Manager which integrates all of the above functions in one package as well as adds a lot more functionality. I think that it is also installable from the repositories listed on our Wiki as listed above.
I hope this helps, _________________ Ed Richards

Yep and it is also included in the default install of the Professional Edition. _________________ Ed Richards

I've used Xandros File Manager and Grip for CD ripping, and K3B for CD burning.

XFM does the job but it's slooooow! By the way, it is possible to rip to MP3 using XFM - at least from Xandros Home Edition Premium and probably on Professional too. _________________ sudo: A word from Spanish that actually means "I sweat". |

Not certain totally here, but I have a machine with 2 GB ram and it rips quickly with XFM. It also burns with fewer errors at faster speeds. I think RAM and possibly processor speed also speed to time. I would be interested in timed rips from various progs if you've done the experiment. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

Ripping will purely be a CPU speed thing.
The encoding process eats up all the CPU resources you throw at it.
CD Bus Speed will have a big part in the coverting to wav part. _________________ Kevin MacPherson

I haven't tried other programs yet, but I have 2 GB of RAM and a 3GHz processor. I've extracted all of my CD collection with iTunes for Windows (except for the new one I bought yesterday) and extraction is at sonic speeds compared to XFM. _________________ sudo: A word from Spanish that actually means "I sweat". |
