I have an HP-7350 and HP-8250 printers, both have been succesfully used with X4 both as a local and network setup,winxp,mac-mini,X4. In my present setup,Ihad to set XP back up,multible users with ITunes so I put the HP-8250 on the windows computer just for easier config(??) So far mac-mini,son's macbook wireless, two XP wireless computers can print OK. However X4 can see the printer in XFM, can see it in printer setup, (Browse) and sets it up. Test page or any other print functions will not work with X4. As I stated earlier this X4 used this setup before witout a problem. Are there any files I can look at?
The 7350 is hooked usb to X4 and works fine, but I promised it to my dad.

I don't understand this part needing the XP and easier set.. I have Itunes installed with CrossOver on Xandros with multiple users and it works fine.

If all the other Computers can see & use the 8250 and the X4 can see and WAS at one time able to Use the 8250 then likely something is wrong or corrupt in the X4/8250 setup.
Post your exact steps in setting up the 8250 to work as a Network Windows printer with the X4 machine. Outline of LAN i.e router IP ranges ..Shares for the X4 ..Can the X4 copy and save to a XP as share?.. Are there subnets.Does the X4 (for debugging) have a like User login as compared to the other Xandros LAN machines that can successfully print with 8250..
Is the 8250 directly connected to the XP or attached via a router or Printserver?

Sorry about the config(??) should have left that out. It is only easier this way because these new additions to the house have no linux experience and I am gone 14 hours a day.Authorizing and unauthorizing and moving ITunes files is a pain I can't handle over the phone.
As far as what I did was just a simple open XFM-Printers-Add new Printer and follow the steps exactly as I have done many times with X3 and X4 with never a hiccup. The only thing differant is I've done this many times so there could be a corupt file in Xandros,I don't know where to look.
All the win and X4 computers are on my rjlhome network, the macs are in Workgroup.X4 can copy and paste files as share but XP will not accept my admin password.
The 8250 is connected by usb directly to xp and is share enabled.

This has happened to me before also and Just deleting the Printer and then reinstalling usually did the trick.. One time I had to go to www.linuxprinting.org and download the printer's driver.pdd which should have not but did make a difference..This all probably due as you surmised to corruption.

In the event that this is a possible SAMBA issue. Try this to debug..
Add the same Username and Password to the X4 as a working X3 machine and see what results that brings..

So 1. A New Printer or Driver 2. User/Password SAMBA test.

Changing the printer models from hp 8200 to hp 8100 and 8400 I can print. The diffrence being 8100 and 8400 list Foomatic and hpijs drivers,8200 doesn't show any drivers,so that must be the bad file.
User/Password SAMBA test I don't know what you mean.

Sound like you have your answer..Smile
Not important that you have the Label that matches your model number exactly as many of the foomatic pdd are cross purpose drivers. If you feel the need for a driver in the 8250 named parameter then copy a pdd there or load one in from www.linuxprinting.org as you create your printer.

Sorry, does look a bit shorthand..should read
]User/Password as a debugging SAMBA test. Meaning that if you create a like Username/Password as on the X4 that matches a X3 that prints then the existing X4 UserName may have permission or User corruption.
The short answer in this case is to delete the User and create a New User.

Good that you have the printers working finally.

Thanks for all your help.
The confusion was my fault, the X3 computer was upgraded to X4 at present I only have one X4. When I get more time I'll get the xp box back to dual boot and put xp back to sleep. I only keep it 'cause its paid for.

sqlpython,

Spank myself for stupidity. In five minutes last nite girlfriend got a trojan from myspace instantly detected by BoClean, then free Comcast MacAfee found something else and proceded to remove the taskbar.X4 Pro installed last nite before bed.All printers working, now to tackle ITunes.
What was I thinking????

First I thought, you would be censored.. I am a speed reader, I read in chunks, a gift given to our 7th grade as pilot program when I was a kid. Like typing it has stuck with me but sometimes can give odd results like your first 13 words got my head spinning then I digested the paragraph!

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying "In the short time you ran WinDoze you started to develop all sorts of irritating problems and quickly reverted to a Xandros V4 Pro install and Now all is Right with the world.
Right?
Good for you..

To be correct: In the short time I let someone else run WinDoze in my house I started to develop all sorts of irritating problems and quickly reverted to a Xandros V4 Pro install and Now all is Right with the world.

And I'm sorry for the whirlwind!
Now all is Right with the World.
