|
|
PACKAGE
- libdvdcss2
- libdvdcss2-dev
This is an experimental package and may be removed with short notice if the circumstances requires that.
The package makes it possible to play encoded DVDs with Xine and other video players. The package does not actually contain the library due to possible legal issues. Instead it is downloaded from download.videolan.org.
Hope it works well for you.

* Ubuntu Linux
* Mandriva Linux
* Fedora Core
* Familiar Linux
* YOPY/Linupy
* Zaurus
* SUSE Linux
* Red Hat Linux
* WinCE / PocketPC
* Slackware Linux
* ALT Linux _________________ X4 Kernal 2.6.18-dcc-smp: AMD Athlon 64 X2 AM2 4600+ in ASUSTek M2N4-SLI MB

| Not sure what your question is. Has it something to do with the package libdvdcss2 or do you ask about how to download VLC ? |

I'm not sure what I'm asking because the whole thing is very cryptic to a newbie windoze troglodyte like me.
But that solution you provided for extracting libdvdcss2 from the X4 files, so I can get Xine working is excellent. It worked and I am very grateful to you.
Thanks Arne,

Glad you like it.
The libdvdcss2 together with the win32codecs and libxine1 library (same repository as libdvdcss2) should provide all you need to watch and listen whatever you want.
Cheers,

PMJI. I've been trying for some time to get .mov and .flv files to play with under xandros. On my systems (one XOS3 one XOS4) using xine I get the video but no sound. I've seen posts on other forums from people who say they've managed it with the right codecs. I have all the codecs from mplayer and some others as well (from an 'all windows codecs' that I forget the origin of).
Do you happen to know what I need to get sound with flv and mov files? It's not particularly important but it'd be more elegant. At the moment I use RIVA on my work XP system to convert them to .avi files but I'd prefer to skip the recode if I can. _________________ (expert with questions)

Well .mov (and probablt .flv) is just a container format. To be able to help, you have to specify how the video/audio in the container was encoded. If you have examples of .mov and .flv files that do not work for you tell me where to find them and I'll try them out to see if I can find something.
If you use Xine and have not already installed libxine1 provided by archlug, I suggest you install it and try your .mov and .flv again. |

The .flv files I have are ones I generated by capturing youtube videos with the videodownloader extension for firefox, I have no information as to their encoding. I have only 2 .mov files someone emailed me, not worth worrying about.
I'll try libxine1 since I don't have that installed. My libdvdcss2 and libdvdcss2-dev came from 1.2.9 debs rather than the 1.2.8 ones that archlug has, I presume your libxine1 will work OK with those. I'll let you know if it works. _________________ (expert with questions)

I have now installed libxine 1.1.3 as well as libdvdcss2 1.2.9 and libdvdcss2-dev 1.2.9, still no sound with the .flv files (they do have it with an flv player under windows). _________________ (expert with questions)

| Unfortenately I can't help you further without info about used codecs or at least an non-working flv or mov file I can try myself. |

OK, thanks anyway. I thought there might be an easy / obvious solution I'd overlooked. I don't think it's worth spending any more time on at the moment.
This weekend I'm going to repartition the hard drive on our desktop, install winXP (solely for to able to do the Australian Tax stuff online, they won't allow linux), then XOS4 with all my customisations. I think I'll be busy enough! _________________ (expert with questions)

.flv is Flash Video IIRC, I think that is an MPEG4 based codec. .mov files are usually associated with Quicktime, so if you haven't already, download and install Quicktime via Crossover Office (if you have it!).
HTH.

Well...
this is probably kind of dumb...but when I put the archlug repository into the /etc/apt/sources.list...it doesn't apparently "save"...
when I go "back" there are the original three sources, the cdrom and the two XS4...
and the update and install says it is looking for sources but uses old ones...
Have I forgotten/missed something?

Did you edit sources.list as root (if not, that's your problem) ?
Have you tried to add the sources through XN|Edit|Set Application Sources ... instead ? |
