|
|
Hi there,
I am problems finding drivers for the lexmark Z35. I did find them some drivers from http://lexmark.ca but these are for redhat, mandrake and suse. I would really like to get some that will work with this printer.
If anyone out there can help me that would be great. _________________ Ryan Scheideman CNE/MCSE/LCP/A+/Network+/CCNA

I checked at linuxprinting.org & couldn't find that model listed, even as a paperweight.
http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Lexmark
You may be stuck trying to get the lexmark provided drivers working.
If you are adventurous, you could attempt some of the drivers for similar machines.
If you haven't already, check XN for printing updates, as well.

I have checked the update and found that they have no current driver for this printer yet. Do you know of any way to contact them to see if they would include a driver for this.
For the mean time i will be using win4lin version 5 to print from windows 98se _________________ Ryan Scheideman CNE/MCSE/LCP/A+/Network+/CCNA

Sorry about leaving you hanging on XN, Ryan. It's pretty common shorthand on this forum, but I forget that some folks are new here
Most drivers for Linux are written by volunteers, some by manufacturers, but it's pretty much unheard of for a distro to write them.
If Linuxprinting isn't listing your printer, chances are you are stuck with what Lexmark offers. You might contact support@xandros.com to see if they can help you get it working with the Lexmark drivers.

I went & took a look at the drivers at lexmark. They appear to be tar.gz files, so it's *possible* that this is source code, although the mention of being self extracting has me wondering.
Is there any useful info in the readme file? (It's *supposed* to have detailed instructions)
I would also contact Lexmark on this...they may have the info you need to install that driver on a debian system.

The readme file states that both enscript and ghostscript need to be installed for the driver to function. Where can i find these files? _________________ Ryan Scheideman CNE/MCSE/LCP/A+/Network+/CCNA

Near as I can tell, both are installed on my machine.
Take a look in: /usr/share
It's possible that these were installed as part of a *successful* printer install, so not sure what you'll find.

Umm, OK, what makes you think that? Have you gotten an error message?
The way I see it at this point, you have a couple of options:
1- You could try some of the drivers available at Linux printing, if you recognize one of the supported printers as being similar to yours.
2- You could try to get the Lexmark drivers running. I would contact Lexmark & find out whether those drivers are customized for certain distros, or if they are source code.
If it's source code, then it's just a matter of compiling the code & they should work fine. If you need help compiling, there is a post in the "tips & tricks" section that should help.
I would also contact support@xandros.com , they may be able to help you out.
