I have to max the volume in order to get some sound from my box.
I run Xandros 3 and I have a 3D sound blaster card installed.
Any ideas?
Thank you |

Have you tried the sound in several applications and found that the sound is low in all of them? Besides the system volume control, some applications have their own volume control built in.
In the Control Center you can select one of several different sound systems, such as ALSA and OSS. Have you tried the different choices?
Have you tried different volume control/mixer applications? I currently use envy24control to go with the Envy24-based sound card I use, but there's also alsamixer/alsamixergui, kmix, tkmixer, gamix, and probably others. As I recall, several of them are available from Xandros Networks.

Hi
I just gave the music manager, in 4.0 and the thing is not there, and I can't get at the 3.0 box now...but in "I THINK" switches. there was a box to tick that was either "double" or "triple" boost the output...this was NOT the "boost" for a microphone...and I had to use it with a previous SB card I had...sorry I can't find it now, but you can check for it..
hope it helps

It may be that some of the input gains in the mixer are not all the way up... I'd open the mixer window and see if something isn't turned way down... To do that, right-click the speaker and go to 'show mixer window'.
Hope this helps. _________________

I had the recent experience of changing speakers. The old speakers
had bad connection and always need to be jiggled (especially the wire)
so I got a new speakers - dirt cheap from Walgreens/online.
With the old speakers, I barely could hear it. It's "powered" by the
computer, i.e., just a plug goes into the computer.
With the new speakers, it's awfully loud (I quickly had to change the
sound mixer to 50% and the volume know of the speaker to 1
(out of 6-7). I had two plugs: one goes into the computer and
other one goes into the power outlet. I suspect the juice is coming
from the power outlet.
I got this one now (dirt cheap - low quality).

I'm sure there are others. Try speakers that use the power outlet
as well as the sound input from the computer.
