Hi. I know this is my first post but I am gonna try an 'expirement' 2night... (hey, get out of my laboratory.. (Dexter))...
At backports.org they have kde 3.5 all ready to install on Debian Sarge. I am gonna try to install those kde packages, then install the xandros stuff on top of it and see how it goes. I will let you know 2night what happens...

1. Added the Backports.org Debian Sarge Repository
2. updated to Backports KDEbase 3.5.0 and dependencies.
3. removed kdm-nd
4. installed gdm
5. unchecked the backports repository
*note: You need to have debian sarge's repository as well as the backport site or kdebase update will fail. (unmet dependency issue)
So far all I've lost was the custom kdm-nd from xandros and the custom launch menu that xandros' kde 3.3 provides is replaced w/ the default K?
Any idea's on how to get that back?

Well, you could install KBFX, but you would loose a few nice features. Such as pressing the Windows key to open the Launch Menu.
Then just copy the Xandros '/usr/share/apps/kicker/pixmaps' to your desktop, and drag and drop. You may need to rename them first.
A few questions.
1. On the Launch menu itself, not the button. Is it the Xandros version, that follows the Windows Classic 9x/2k style menu? Or is it the KDE 3.5 version?
2. Do you have a "Debian" menu? That lists a few more applications.
3. Have you checked out the Metabar feature in Konqueror? It is a themable sidebar (F9), that is similar to the WinXP "Common Tasks" sidebar.
Do you like it better than the Xandros/Win9x/2k HTML view?
Oh, the Xandros 4 DCC repository has already been revealed... *Gasp*.
There is not enough in the repository to update too. Just a broken kernel update, and several system updates, such as libc6. Which many have installed on Xandros 3.02.
Xandros does not provide KDE versions in any repository, only on CD. Possibly due to the cost of bandwidth.
I believe Xandros 4 will use KDE 3.4. That seems to be the standard for DCC, and LSB 3.1. _________________ The answers are out there. You just have to know how to find them.

I removed gdm and replaced it with debian's kdm. Xandros' kdm-nd no longer works as you get a signall 11 crash error.
The Launch with the Xandros X is replaced by the K in KDE 3.5. I was able to change it by overwriting the files tht say Kmenu.png. But the file I used made it obscure. I don't care what it look's like as long as it's not the K.
(note to self: I'm wondering if I can reinstall xandros' kicker from xandros' repository?)
I haven't checked out the sidebar from Konquerer as I am still using the Xandros File Manager. Xandros Networks still functions too.
So far all is good for me. I was able to install Debian Sarge Backport's Kopete to have v.0.11.0 as oppose to v.0.9.x
Didn't install much else. Left the default kernel. (2.6.11-x1)
The launch menu will end up showing kde 3.5 but I don't know how to change that back either as I'd like to have it say Xandros 3 like b4.
When I click the Kmenu, there is a folder in there that says debian that lists applications. I don't know if there are any additonal ones in there, I'll have to check it out.
So far, so good. I'll let you know more as it happens. _________________ Why wait. Compile it yourself. (./configure; make; make install)... |

I followed these instructions and now have KDE 3.5 on my Xandros 3.0.3 Business Edition laptop!!! And it isn't broken!!! BTW, here is a screenshot!
I gotta tell you, KDE 3.5 is wicked cool. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |
