I have just started using xDMS 1.0.1 and am trying to "Retrieve latest updates from Xandros" from within Repository Builder. However, I keep getting "FTP: Unable to establish FTP session to xdmsupdates.xandros.com: ftp: connect: Connection timed out".
If I try to connect to that web site via Firefox, a logon screen pops up. Do I need a user login & password to use this feature? If so, how do I request access and set it in Repository Builder?
Thanks for any help.

| Double-checked my network settings and changed my default gateway. Other (non-Xandros) PCs on my network seem to work with the original gateway (which is a proxy server between the network & the firewall), but maybe something was blocking access to the Xandros site. I'll see what happens when I start testing out the Xandros desktops. |

The proxy server needs to understand the FTP protocol.
It is more complicated than HTTP, and is completely different -- in that an HTTP proxy has nothing to do with being an FTP proxy or not, and the same for SMTP (email) or POP3 (email client) or SSH or any other protocol.
You need to understand the networking going on between your XDMS box and the internet.
And Microsoft Proxy is utter crap and is completely proprietary-ware.
Network Gateway != "http proxy". _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |
