spewing down my screen, which is odd because i have had previous boot loader problems where is spewd out but never before .
I fixed the problem by inserting he instalation cd, holding down shift and then slecting restore. The problem remains though, what happend? I have been using Xandros since B1 and i have never had this problem.
Disk infomation is as follows.
Disk 1 - XP partition
Disk 2 - /dev/hda1 - Xandros 1.0
- /dev/hda2 - technology preview cd
Another thing that happend before the 04040404 error was my "Technology Preview" entry dissapeared from the boot loader the previous day. |

| Where is Disk 1 (your XP partition)? It doesn't seem to be your first IDE disk. Is it a scsi or off on a promise controller? On which mbr (disk) have you placed the boot record. |

Disk 1[my xp partition] i am prety sure is my first IDE disk. The boot loader was installd to the mbr of /dev/hda which is my XP disk and also to /dev/hdb which is the default for Xandros.
The disks are ATA66[/dev/hda] and DMA33[/dev/hdb], there are no scsi controllers in my system. The controller is VIA. |

Installation order (XP, Xandros, lastly Tech Preview)?
{Added comment:}
Can you boot to your CD holding down the shift key, go to rescue console and spin out a copy of /etc/lilo.conf (using mc - midnight commander or your favorite tool)?
I've found that the Xandros auto-bootmaker will sometime slip in the BIOS addresses for my drives and that will produce the same thing you have. (Look for "bios" statements just above the first lilo stanza.)
If you remove them (one or two of them), then rerun /sbin/lilo, you might restore things. Once I've done that, I rename /sbin/lilo.real to /sbin/lilo.false to kill off the auto bootmaking process - hopefully just a temporary expedient until Xandros finds and fixes the gremlin. |

I had this same problem on both the xp boot and the Xandros boot. Using System commander 7 as a loader. To restore the xp I used partition magic which detected the shift in LBA and asked to correct it. In Xandros I used the emergency boot dist and reinstalled the lilo loader using the command " lilo -C /etc/lilop.conf " This worked great and no more problems.

I had the same problem with XP and System Commander going 0101010100, etc. I did a reinstall of Xandros and parked the boot loader in the / partition and restarted. It worked fine from my System Commander menu. |
