wasonce,
the general drift of comments by the more experienced folks around here is that the OCE is released a few months later...it is considered advertising by the corp....
And works too!
It got ME on board!
ain'T XANdroS GReaT!

Me too. And I liked it so much, i bought Deluxe. Now, waiting patiently for Wednesday.
21 June should be important for two reasons:
It is midwinter here in the Southern Hemisphere - summer's on the way back
AND
XANDROS 4.0 WILL APPEAR

It got me on board as well. Right now I'm running Xandros 3.0.3 Business Edition (a birthday gift), and it's oh so good...but I'm sure Xandros 4 will take the Xandros experience to the next level. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |

Anyone with an update X3 or X4, I'm more than happy to put them in the ArchLUG repositories.
LSongs and LPhoto are still there, but I can't say I've kept up with the dependencies. And both of them were built with some very obscure dependencies that seem to have disappeared off the net, probably because they were so obscure.
It left me with the feeling that Linspire paid one guy to write them and he, of course, used all of his pet libraries that he'd written or knew about, instead of looking at what mainstream frameworks were being used.
Some of the dependencies now only exist in the Linspire repository, and all development and maintenance of them has long since ceased when their project sites went offline or lone developers moved on to other things.
LSongs dependencies:
Depends: python2.3 (>= 2.3.3), python2.3-id3lib, python2.3-qt3, python2.3-lame, python2.3-pyxine, cdparanoia, cdrecord, mpg321, vorbis-tools (>= 1.0.1), njbtools (>= 0.0.1), sox, pykde (>= 3.11)
LPhoto dependencies:
Depends: python2.3-qt3, libjpeg-progs, xsltproc, gphoto2, kslidesavergl, kscreensaver, pykde, vcdimager, python2.3-qt3-gl, python2.3-opengl, ffmpeg
Of those, kslidesavergl and kscreensaver and njbtools are pretty much extinct. |
You know, I just thought of something...it might be better to wait until Linspire open sources their CNR client. Then what you could do is this :
1. Have the CNR client download Lsongs and save all of your successfully downloaded/installed Lsongs-dependent .cnr files (probably to /var/cache/.repository/).
2. Copy the successfully downloaded .cnr files to a work/temp directory.
3. Find CNRtoDEB.deb and install that (dpkg -i cnrtodeb.deb or sudo dpkg -i cnrtodeb.deb).
4. In your console, go to where you copied your .cnr files and run the following command : cnrtodeb *.cnr...that should convert those files into .deb files.
5. Add the converted .deb files to the Archlug apt repository for Xandros 4. If the open sourced CNR client will run on Xandros 3, then add the files to the Archlug repository for Xandros 3.
6. Go back to /var/cache/.repository and delete the .cnr files. Go to where you made your work/temp directory and make a second work/temp directory.
7. Repeat the above steps, but this time it would be for Lphoto.
I do have a feeling that having and using the open source CNR client on Xandros 3 and/or 4 will probably be the only way to actually get Lsongs and Lphoto to properly work on Xandros 3 and/or 4. I don't remember actually when Linspire will make CNR open source...I know it's supposed to be shortly after they release the first beta of Freespire. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |

Yeah, this feature REALLY has me interested!!
Xandros always has a feature that surprises when it's released.
I'm wondering what surprises the new Business Edition replacement will have. _________________ Debian & openSUSE |

An automated back scratcher and an automated toilet paper dispenser/wiper? Just think...if you back itches, Xandros could scratch it for you, and you could even use Xandros while you're sitting on the loo. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |

No, but I have it on good authority that Xandros 4 will make dinner and bathe the dog. The back-scratcher and dispenser/wiper will be a later update, only be available to Premium Members.

I still think there ought to be a software open AND close of the cd tray for me to be able to sit my coffee cup there....
The open works fine but not the close....... have to push it by hand....
ain't xandros great!

Woodsmoke, they patched that already as my "coffee mug holder" works just fine on X3BE, no reason why it should not work for you.
just my two cents! _________________ WinXperts

Well, there are (seriously) USB coffee mug warmers, I think.
USB : the greatest invention since the Atari 800. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |

|
|
There are some seriously ridiculous PC accessories at ThinkGeek.com. My favorite is (I am not making this up) the PC EZ-Bake Oven. It fits in a 5.25" drive bay. It's a small oven that bakes single serving brownies, cakes, cookies and muffin tops (nobody likes the muffin stumps anyway). It's powered from the PC's 12VDC supply, opens like a CD tray, and has PC software (open source!) to set the bake time and hopefully open the tray when the snacky cake is finished baking. It ships with some "just add water" snack cake mix.
The ultimate geek PC accessory!
Fortunately, it looks like they designed that thing with a fan that vents the moisture OUT of the PC case.

I wonder if the Dell warranty would cover cake batter overflowing into the hard drive. |
