Could you possibly provide a link or some kind of proof to prove that that is a truthful statement? Be very careful that you are not spreading misinformation about Xandros 4... _________________ Welcome to the friendly XandrOS forums!

Pretty lame response if you ask me...
I would reccomend no one believe this person until Xandros 4.0 is officially released or unless you find out official information elsewhere. _________________ Welcome to the friendly XandrOS forums!

Sounds like it.
Although I can't recall if Lsongs is iPod compatible. This is why I'm waiting for the Business edition... the Home Ed. sounds like they are just playing catchup with other distros. |
Lsongs is iPod compatible, but iPod compatibility depends on libipod. Here is some text I got from the Lsongs.com site :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
libipod
libipod is a lightweight library written in C for the management of the Apple iPod. It includes wrappers for C++ and Python, as well as a number of example programs. libipod is the basis for the iPod support in Lsongs, a GPL music manager/player for Linux published by Linspire, Inc.
libipod is licensed under the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL), which basically means that this the code may be used in either Open or Closed source programs, as long as the source of libipod is made available on request. For more information on the license, please read the the file "COPYING", which is included with the source distribution, or view the text of the LGPL.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Really the thing I like best about Lsongs is the built-in integration with the Shoutcast website (Lsongs has a built-in web browser, but the only site it can visit is shoutcast.com...would be nice if it could visit radio.real.com as well).
But here's the one thing Lsongs needs to improve on in a future release. Lsongs needs to gain compatibility with AACs and HE-AACs...some of the ShoutCast radio stations are "streaming AAC" stations. "Streaming AAC" radio stations will not play on Lsongs.
Now Lphoto is a neat tool as well. I had it on Linspire, and it worked perfectly with my FujiFilm FinePix USB digital camera.

| There is now a comparison matrix if you click the link on the upgrade page. Info is a bit superficial - xandros photo manager and music manager is in the premium edition but no detail attached. |

I found out that the Phoro Manager will be powered by Digikam, and the Music Manager will be powered by amaroK. I'm gonna find a way to get Lsongs and Lphoto to work on here...even if it takes until the Second Coming. _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |

I know I got the Linspire LPhoto and LSongs to work on X2. Haven't kept up with them on X3, though.
Anyone with an update X3 or X4, I'm more than happy to put them in the ArchLUG repositories.
LSongs and LPhoto are still there, but I can't say I've kept up with the dependencies. And both of them were built with some very obscure dependencies that seem to have disappeared off the net, probably because they were so obscure.
It left me with the feeling that Linspire paid one guy to write them and he, of course, used all of his pet libraries that he'd written or knew about, instead of looking at what mainstream frameworks were being used.
Some of the dependencies now only exist in the Linspire repository, and all development and maintenance of them has long since ceased when their project sites went offline or lone developers moved on to other things.
LSongs dependencies:
Depends: python2.3 (>= 2.3.3), python2.3-id3lib, python2.3-qt3, python2.3-lame, python2.3-pyxine, cdparanoia, cdrecord, mpg321, vorbis-tools (>= 1.0.1), njbtools (>= 0.0.1), sox, pykde (>= 3.11)
LPhoto dependencies:
Depends: python2.3-qt3, libjpeg-progs, xsltproc, gphoto2, kslidesavergl, kscreensaver, pykde, vcdimager, python2.3-qt3-gl, python2.3-opengl, ffmpeg
Of those, kslidesavergl and kscreensaver and njbtools are pretty much extinct. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

I am sure beta testing is over since the release of version 4 is only a few days away.

I don't know what you mean but there will be a charge to upgrade from v3 to v4, the price list is on the web site.

| I think the question is whether there will be an Open Circulation Edition (free)? At this point it doesn't look like it. But I have to agree, considering the disaster that v3-SP2 was. If there isn't an OCE, I'll hold off spending any money and wait and see how other people do. |
