I've always used source code when I wanted to install a particular application not available as a DEB; however, what methods are available for making DEBs for Xandros? And where could I share these if other people were interested in these applications? I'm interested in creating packages as source code can be a pain to install at times. _________________ Linux simply works for me...

| The easiest way is probably to use a package called checkinstall (found in Unsupported site). Search this site and you will se how to use it (its very simple). |

I bet Mike80808 would be happy to have your debs on the Archlug repository.

Probably, just to make sure you're using all the stock Xandros libs and such. (Just my guess.)

Well,
A question occured to me a week or so ago when I was thinking about USB distros and the "on a mini cd distros" and the, some time ago, distro that was going on a floppy.
In looking at the "packages" that are installed with Xandros, there is "one of each" as it were. There are not two word processors, etc. like with some other distros.....
Anyhow, to get to the question.
Let's say for the sake of argument, that I don't need a spreadsheet but do need a wordprocessor. I might never use a picture viewer, I just look at them as I click them in file explorer,
Would it be possible to "remove" software that was not "linked"(I don't know a better word) to "Xandros" OS?
Say, again for sake of argument, remove all of open office and install just a word processor. Not that I would do that, it just occured to me...
Possible?
Desireable?
ain't xandros great?

Thanks guys; this will give me something to play around with for the next little while; I tried checkinstall with Lame 3.96.1 source code since it's easy to compile/install and it works great!
It's a little late in the game to be making packages for Xandros 3 when Xandros 4 is about to be released; however, I'll be making packages for Xandros 4. _________________ Linux simply works for me...

If you were installing OpenOffice 2.0 (from the OpenOffice.Org site) you would have to install all the components separately (over 30 I think); word processor, spreadsheet, etc are all separate, but from the Official Xandros 3 source I believe you have to install everything or choose to just to install ABI Word (a stand alone word processor) available in Debian Unsupported. _________________ Linux simply works for me...
