Sorry for the delayed response, 4570. You have me scratching my head.
I checked your file permissions reported against mine and they are the same. And, also, the fact that they ARE there and readable makes no sense if we are to believe the error message you reported before.
I suggest the following (and Im afraid we are going backwards there).
1, I have proved that v1.1.2 is not need3ed. Using XN, remove it.
2, Again in XN and after logging onto your system as ADMINISTRATOR, click SETTINGS / EXPERT VIEW. Next, in the search box, enter: "openoffice".
You should have a result saying something like "39 results". (This is just to confirm).
3, Click on the + for Installed Applications, and hopefully you will see many entries with 'openoffice' in the name and hopefully, by description, you should be able to distinguish them. Tell me if they say anything else other than belonging to openoffice.org 2.x (you should have removed v1.1 by now).
4, Use the select boxes against each entry with 'openoffice' in it and choose 'REMOVE SELECTED APPLICATIONS' from the File menu.
This procedure will remove completely all openoffice components.
5, Then check for the files (detailed before by you). Hopefully by now they shouldn't be around.
6, Remove the following folders. Do it by renaming rather than deleting the folders. To be sure, rename (by adding a "BACK" on the end of the name) the following folders:
- all OPENOFFICE.ORG* folders found in the "/opt" folder.
- all OPENOFFICE.ORG* folders found in the "/etc" folder.
- all .openoffice* folders found in your HOME folder (/home/user where 'user' is your usual log on name). NOTE the 'DOT' in this folder name!)
- all .openoffice* folders found in /root (note the 'dot'!)
To view these folders (as they are hidden) you need to enable SHOW HIDDEN FILES in the View menu of File Manager. (note: you are effectively removing openoffice settings by removing this last one. If you changed settings in v1.1.2 you will have to again when we get v2.0 going).
(You are now using File Manager for this)
7, Now, I have found that if you have made modifications to your home menu (using menu editor) this can create problems with the new OFFICE sub menu appearing. So go to the '.config/menus' folder from your home directory (and from the /root directory as well) and rename the "applications-kmenuedit.menu" file. (Remember, if you dont know what I mean about the menu editor then chances are you have never used it and this file will not exist anyway.)
8, Also, from the home directories, go to the '.local/share/applications' folder and delete and *.desktop files you see here. (These are created when you add new items to your menus using the menu editor. If you have never used the menu edirtor then you will not have entries here).
Ok, thats it off top of my head. Now, reboot, log in as Administrator and attempt the reinstall of OpenOffice 2.1 (new version on their website now) again following the instructions in this thread.
Please acknowledge the reading of this and let me know how you get on.
Good luck. _________________ jimimaseye
