Hi all, This is a bit long but a must if your having HPofficejet Problems.

for 2 weeks now I have struggling and posting to get a HP Officejet (All in One) 5610 or 4210
working in my network.
My Network is comprised of 3 WinXP pros, 1 WinServer 2003, and a Dual/boot WinXP-Xandros Linux.
The Xandros is on a Dell 5100 Laptop where I do 99% of of my computing (10-12 hrs a day).
Currently 2 printers on the network 1 HP812 via USB to a WinXP and 1 HP 5610 Officejet.

I finally settled on working with the HP5610. I could not get the HP5610 to print with Linux. Although it was connected to the USB port and recognized and installed by the Wizard.
Which installed the 5600 hpijs drivers.

As the HP5610 printed when attached to any WinXP including over the network Shared, I concluded that I had a Linux print driver problem. The driver was 5600 Foomatic + hpijs.
Also no luck with hpoj. Two types Xandros-hpoj and std hpoj.See Xandros Networks.

I decided to find an alternative HP driver. Many Deskjet based HPs will print with other drivers.
Got on the line with HP Tech and they suggested the HP900 series or the HP550, neither worked.
I dual booted to WinXP and to use the Win/HP compatibility as a common denominator.
I discovered that the HPdeskjet Plus driver would produce a good print copy. No other driver would print.

The HP5610 comes with a driver CD which initializes the HP5610 and installs drivers. Windows cannot extract a print driver from this disk during an ADD Printer Wizard. This is important.

Back to Linux.
The HPdeskjetplus driver would not work with Linux and the HP5610. rats!
Time for new drivers
As suggested by many I tried the hplip drivers.Availables automatically on Xandros Networks.
When you install Xandros-hpoj or hpoj std or hplip they do not co-exist. Each install replaces the previous. You can only have one of the three running.
Now once working with hplip you are not able to attach the printer to a WinXP and expect to network to a shared printer. Every print job gets hung in and locks the WinXP printer queue.
Only a WinXP will release the document which never does print.
Here are the steps I used to get it working on a mixed Network. Windoze and Linux.
********* The Install
I took many wrong turns but below are the steps that work.
1. Attach the HP5610 to the Linux machine via USB and get it working locally with hplip drv.
2. Disconnect and before attaching to Win box begin HP5610 install CD in designated Win box.
3. The CD will take you step by Step including reconnecting the HP5610.
4. You now have a Working Win HP5610 install. SHARE it in properties.
5. GO to each Win machine you wish to print to the Shared HP5610,ADD Printer as networkprinter.
The 1st install will intelligently send HP5610 drivers across the Network.
Do this at each Win machine and you have a working networking HP5610. Windows ONLY.
Try to print to the shared HP5610 with Linux and it fails.
6. I installed a Workaround a Linksys WPS54G. The WPS is for Windows Print Server.
7. Disconnect the HP5610 at the USB and install a local printer on each WIN machine.
As a local USB HPdeskjetPlus. Do not print test pages. Do not actually attach printer.
8. Place the Linksys WPS54G install CD in any of the Win machines and begin.
**Once the device has an IP copy it down together with it's Device ID for ports**
You will be able to config if necessary in Browser like a router or CUPS.
9. Again you will be walked through the steps of attaching and detaching and detecting the printer and the network. In the end the Linksys will correctly detect the HP5610 but will not be able to initialize it. You will be given the choice of one of your other printers. Choose the new HPdeskjetplus. Linksys will be happy and will be able to initialize. Do not choose to print a Test page. Finished now click on Properties of the new printer and choose the HP5600 driver left behind by first install. That is Properties > Advanced > Drivers. Make Sure the port is correct to the WPS54G Linksys it is a TCP/IP port created by the install.
10. DO this initialization at each Win machine. Each time choosing the HPdeskjetplus and not printing a test page. Change drivers to hp5610 in properties and check the port.
11. You now have a working wired/wireless Linksys printserver independent of Windows.
12. Fire up Linux > Control Panel > Peripherals > Printers > Add Printer
Choose Network Printer > type Other > Name:HPOffice Device: ipp://ipaddress of Linksys/
Model HP Type: OFFICEjet 5600... Print a test page.

This is a workaround ideally I would like to have the HP5610 on the WInXP machine directly.
But this just does not work.
At the least I could not get success from any other method.
If others have been able to get a HP5610 to print on a Win/Linux mixed network from Linux to Windos share I welcome the info. My eyes are bleeding.

Is there any driver out there that makes it possible to use the HP OFFICEJET 5610 with Xandros-eee, i.e. not printing only but using the feedsheet scanner?

My mother has a 5610, and it prints and scans well, but I've never tried it with the sheetfeeder. Let us know if you solve this.

Welcome to the Xandros forums, reinhard.

Welcome to the Xandros forums, reinhard.
Thank you
As I remember the hplip driver does state that sheetfeeder usage is supported. Unfortunately not in my case. I'm even not able to scan at all, neither with StarOffice nor with the "sane" tool.
Can anyone help, which driver to install, from which repo, which not to install?
Thanx

P.S. Sorry I've forgotten to mention my configuration.
It is Asus EeePC 901GO, OS: default Xandros, german
