|
|
Hello -- Yesterday I switched from Windows XP to Xandros (completely). I'm now experiencing brand new audio/graphics choppiness. I first discovered this in a Java game, if that's of any help. I know there is a great tutorial on nVidia drivers but I just wanted to check in with someone first before I proceed (plus I couldn't figure out which one to download). I am not a tech-savvy person so the more basic your assistance, the better. I've included my specs below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Xandros Desktop OS 4.1 Professional (build 2006-11-08 10:58)
Release: 2.6.18-dcc-smp
Machine: i686
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
Video Card: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600]
Driver: nvidia
Driver loaded: yes
Bus type: PCI/AGP/PCI Express
Thanks for reading. |

Thank you Doctore, thought that might be it... I'm not sure which to go with. I know I'm SMP, but I'm not sure if I qualify for "FX 5xxx and greater" since my card name doesn't include "FX" and I'm being cautious. I also don't understand the difference between the different numbers (for instance, 9629 vs. 9631). So here's all I've narrowed it down to (if someone could point me to the exact one, I'd highly appreciate it):
SMP kernels:
9629
9631
***For SMP Machines Using Geforce FX 5xxx Cards and Greater Only***
9742b
9746
9755
100.14.03b
100.14.06b
100.14.11
100.14.19b |

The 100.14.19b driver is probably your best solution.. Please follow the instructions carefully though _________________

Im using one system with "GeForce 6150" and another with "6600" video cards,
both with the "100.14.11" driver. Have also an third system with "6150" where the
"100.14.19b" driver is used. All works. Except with some widescreen monitors,
which causes resolution/detection issues. Havent had time to test carefully, but it
depends on either "Xandros" or the driver. Because "Windows" is troublefree.
Anyway, Im assuming the earlier driver is an "Stable" and the later an "Beta" driver
becuse the later reports so when the system is booting. _________________ Linux User #432929
