Probably will not work because I think they are limited for connections.
But tightVNC should be an esy recompile as a package. If you search for tightvnc on snapshot.debian.net and go from there. _________________ Kevin MacPherson

Ray, that's a vnc client. We're trying to run X4.1 as a vnc server.
- Erny
p.s. Every week or so I try again. Oddly, sometimes I find that XN will install one of the vnc servers, but still it never works. So I remove it again.
p.p.s. I reply in the hope that someone might offer some helpful hints such as how to determine why my vnc server won't start up. (See my other posts.) _________________ ecowan@nospam.magma.ca |

Arne: The problem is that being a headless machine I need to have a VNC connection before logging on, and since the Remote Desktop Sharing doesn't work until someone is logged I'm stuck.
BoyLinux: I'm trying to avoid compiling apps, I prefer to use packages as I've found out the hard way that there's less chance of messing things up.
Erny: I was just using the client to test the tightvnc server on the same machine.
I've set up the machine to auto login and I've installed RealVNC as a service (see http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=28857) since RDS always crashes on me. It's not an elegant solution but it will do the job in the meantime.
Anyone know how to configure RealVNC to start before KDE? |

| Thanks Chris, I'll have a look at NX. I only need one connection so that isn't a problem. |

The only drawback is I'm not sure if the free edition supports more than one connection, though it might. |
It supports 2 connections.

By the way, the NX client can be found in XN supported repository as well. |

I have just installed NX on Xandros but I found that with the Xandros NX client installed I couldn't install the node and server. I had to install the client from the NX site. They must be different versions.
Hopefully I'll get time today to set up NX. |

Step F should also have
| Code: | - In section [X-:0-Core] add the following line
AllowRootLogin=true
|
which will allow Root to login using the local keyboard & screen.
- Erny
p.s. Any hope of getting post-SP1 systems to run vncserver? I had to revert to X4.0 to get this to work. _________________ ecowan@nospam.magma.ca |

| I followed the instructions to access my xandros desktop from another computer, but is it possible to access it from anywhere, or only from my home network? I have tried remotely but it doesn't work. I use a router, should I change any settings on it? Thanks for your help. |

| You will need to open and forward port 5900 on the router to the computer you are trying to control. (your Xandros box) |

|
|
I've been searching all over and there are a lot of references to this problem, but not much help.
Xandros 4.1 OCE using RealVNC, running from inetd.
When I start vncserver, I look at the log and find "Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'"
Well, I found a reference to the font in a fonts.alias file, but, does anybody actually know how to SOLVE this problem?
I've found references to xfs, which Xandros doesn't appear to use. Is there some other font server I should be editing? Perhaps I need to edit some path variable?
Thanks. |
