DirectX is not supported in Xandros. DirectX is a proprietary microsoft technology. However, there's a real good chance that you don't need it.

Is this an Internet Service Provider you're referring to as telephone company? Exactly which services require DirectX? Maybe there's a way to access those services without DirectX. For example, some Internet Service Providers have a program that comes with their dialup or DSL service, that opens the browser and goes to their home page, starts the instant messaging application, offers you a bunch of goods and services that you probably don't want anyway, and so on. You don't NEED all that, they just WANT you to use that. You don't necessarily have to put up with all that crud, in most cases you can use the standard dialup application, enter in their phone number and your username and password, connect via their service, then use whatever browser, IM and so on that you'd like to use, and skip their popup ads altogether.

Give us more details on the situation here, and we'll see what can be done.

Jim

Thank you for your answer! Yo know what I`ll do? I will write to Telia (Sweden) telephone company and ask! Next week I will install both Xandros 3.0 deluxe and my DSL-telephone and we`ll see. My first thought was eactly what you say: Do I really need it?

DirectX allows the software to interact directly with the hardware.

I've never heard of a DirectX modem before!??? DirectX is for sound cards, and video cards, and joysticks. So its mostly for Gaming.

There is a DirectX "Chat" type protocol. It was designed specifically for chatting in games. It does allow for it to be used for other purposes, as Microsoft doesn't like to lock its software into just one thing. (Rather, they want everyone to be locked into their software).
