Yakuake! There are versions on deb repos, but can a Xandros specific install be created?

Thanks!

edit:

X4Home:/home/mike# apt-cache search yakuake
yakuake - a Quake-style terminal emulator based on KDE Konsole technology

X4Home:/home/mike# apt-get install yakuake

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
yakuake: Depends: kdelibs4c2a (>= 4:3.5.1-4) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1) but 2.3.2.ds1-22 is to be installed
Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.0.2) but 1:3.4.3-13 is to be installed
Depends: libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.5) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.0.2-4) but 3.4.3-13 is to be installed

Hey Andrew!
Nice work on the Kopete 0.12.1 package btw.. however I can't recieve webcam streams yet, and I do have Camstream tools, and as far as I know, I have the right Jasper software.. so I dunno what it's deal is...

However, I just installed KTorrent on Xandros... but I had to update some libraries to do it... like libstdc++6 and libc6 and glib4-base.. which gives me an error when I try to remove Azureus... So I was wondering if you Could develop KTorrent for Xandros? I've found it has all the capabilities as Azureus but it doesn't bog your machine down with Java.. and It's much more stable... Only thing I dont like about it, is it doesn't stay in the system tray... but other than that, it's awesome... So if ya got time, could ya repackage it? I would, but my GCC always crashes for some reason...

I have been working on the newest version of Superkaramba with the new install method for its widgets. No luck yet. Andrew, or Arne, any luck on bringing .39 to the repositories?

Thanks,

Eric

I got lucky with downloading superkaramba .39 source code, extracting it, opening console in extracted files' location and typing

./configure
make
make install

Don't remember if it had any dependencies' problem. Even if it had, I got those from synaptic or built from source like I did with superkaramba.

SK itself works fine, no major problems.

I installed that a while back on X3, and wrote instructions for another guy. Here's how I did it:

Code:
Since I have dialup at home, and it would take forever to download SeaMonkey, I downloaded it from work, burned it to a CD, took it home, opened Xandros File Manager, created a new folder called SeaMonkey, and copied the seamonkey-1.0.en-US.linux-i686.installer.tar.gz into the new Seamonkey folder.

In your case, you've already got the seamonkey file somewhere on your computer, so start here:

Click Launch, Applications, System, Administrator tools, Xandros File Manager (Administrator), and enter the Administrator password in the little box that pops up.

When Xandros File Manager (Administrator) comes up, navigate to wherever you've saved the seamonkey file.

Right click on the seamonkey-1.0.en-US.linux-i686.installer.tar.gz file, then click Extract All.

A box will pop up for you to tell it where to extract the file to. It should come up by default in the same folder that you saved seamonkey to, and that's fine; just click Save. A folder named seamonkey-installer will be created.

Click the seamonkey-installer folder to enter it.

Click the seamonkey-installer file - NOT the seamonkey-installer-bin file!

The installer window pops up with the README file. There's no need to read it, just click Next.

The license agreement comes up next. No reason to read that either, just click Accept.

Next it will ask for the setup type. Typical should already be selected, just leave it that way. There's also no need to change the Destination Directory, just leave it at /usr/local/seamonkey. Click Next.

A small window will pop up that says Directory /usr/local/seamonkey doesn't exist. Create it? Click Yes.

Next you will see "Click the Install button to proceed with this install." Click Install.

After the installer does its thing, a console window will open up saying, "Press <ENTER> to continue..." Press Enter. The console window will close.

You have just installed SeaMonkey.

******************************

Now you'll want to add a desktop shortcut for SeaMonkey and add it to the Launch Menu.

To add a desktop shortcut, right click on desktop, click Create New, Shortcut. "Program" should be already selected, click Next.

Where it says Type the location of the program, enter /usr/local/seamonkey/seamonkey, and click Next.

Change the name of the shortcut to whatever you want to call it, or leave it as Shortcut to seamonkey. I just changed it to SeaMonkey. Click Finish.

You now have a SeaMonkey shortcut on your desktop.

You'll probably want to change the icon for the SeaMonkey icon. Right click on the SeaMonkey icon on the desktop, click Properties.

Click on the icon near the top left of the Properties window, right under where it says General.

In the Select Icon window that pops up, click Other Icons, Browse, and navigate to /usr/local/seamonkey/chrome/icons/default/.

Click seamonkey.png; click Open. Click OK. Your SeaMonkey desktop shortcut should now have the SeaMonkey icon on it.

***************************

Now you'll probably want to add SeaMonkey to the Launch Menu.

Right click Launch, click Menu Editor.

Click the + next to Applications, then click Internet.

Click the New Item icon that looks like a sheet of paper.

Enter SeaMonkey in the box that pops up, click OK.

In the Command: box, enter /usr/bin/local/seamonkey/seamonkey"

Click the icon to the right of the Name and Description boxes, then click Other Icons, Browse.

Navigate to /usr/local/seamonkey/chrome/icons/default/, then click seamonkey.png and click Open.

Click the floppy disk icon (Save) near the upper left of the Menu Editor window.

When it's done updating system configuration, close the Menu Editor.

You now have SeaMonkey in your Launch menu.

Now, either click the SeaMonkey icon on the desktop, or click Launch, Applications, Internet, SeaMonkey, and log in to Xandros Forums and tell us that it worked OK!

That was for Xandros 3, but I suspect it will work on X4 also.

Jim

I THINK.... I may be totally wrong....

But I THINK....that WinCE maybe is now sufficiently capable that I might be able to sync my Viewsonic thing with it which uses Windows CE...

dunno.....

But anyway I downloaded the tarball and installed it, it did provide a deb package, but it just disappeared...no kindding...I've searched, looked in all the folders etc.... dunno...

Also, there is a thing called "hotplug" which is supposedly necessary for any of these things to work.... to get a handheld to work. BUT the website says that hotplug should be on a modern Linux distro.... but can't find it either.. anyway...

just thinking that if this stuff was maybe put together is some kind of package that maybe the off the wall brands of hand held pcs might be able to synch with Xandros at least or maybe linux deb. in general...

dunno...just a thought.

AIN't xandROS grEAT!
