Already been done. It's on the Archlug repo. In Xandros Networks goto Edit |Set Application Sources, and Add this one:
| Code: | | deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros3 archlug |
Then search for and Install vaulknut.

Not really from the ArchLUG repository viewpoint, but if you setup an APT repository on your own, we could just tell people to add it to their XN sources, just like we do for x.or.id and archlug.
There's a section on the ArchLUG XandrosKwikis page ( http://www.archlug.org/kwiki/XandrosKwikis ) that lists some other repositories of Xandros-specific application packages. I don't know if Matty notes or refers to other Xandros repositories on his site, that's up to him. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

Especially if you "showcased' it at Archlug...with links to the articles showing how it works etc....
as a "showpiece" for XS 4.0....
just a thought!

No WINE on repositories ... or maybe I don't know where I have to look for it.
Does anyone have a list of repositories? Thank you.

I won't put up WINE because the ArchLUG repositories for the Xandros distribution are for just that -- the Xandros distribution, and Xandros already has a solution for people who need to run Windows applications -- it's called Crossover Office.
I doubt Matty will in his repository either. That said, WINE is open source. You can get the source and build it yourself.
They also offer Win4Lin (I think, but that may have changed since X3 was released) and there are now options like VMWare and Parallels that offer even more and better Windows compatibility.
Personally, I think WINE is mis-guided, and will never match perfect Windows emulation through reverse engineering. And it is pretty much never going to be able to emulate Win2K and Vista APIs. You should try to work with the authors of your favorite software to see if they will directly port their application to your favorite OS, instead of forcing you to buy and use Windows just for their application.
A great example is Ed Hamrick who makes the wonderful VueScan application. Same features and codebase for both Windows, Mac, and Linux versions. It's not really that hard if you don't smoke the free crack from Redmond. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

|
|
Dear Andrew,
I'm slowly learning Linux, so part of this request is a question. Months ago someone at Xandros packaged a front end for GNugp based on KGpg that would work with Xandros 3. However since KGpg was built to work with Konqueror not Xandros file manager some of the features didn't work. It could be used with Konqueror just fine. I just got Xandros v4. The best of all possible worlds would be a version of KGpg that worked, (was integrated into) Xandros file manager. Short of that, can I install the v3 build in v4 without breaking my Xandros 4? If not, could you package KGpg so it would work with Xandrox 4? And lastly can the repositories of packages at ArchLUG be used for Xandros 4, or are they limited to X3?
Thanks,
cackerso |

I already have an X4 repository and mirror the X4 repository from XORID.
| Code: | | deb http://www.archlug.org/apt xandros4 archlug |
See http://www.archlug.org/kwiki/Xandros4-Repositories for more details. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

Probably a lot of the X3 stuff could be installed on X4, but be sure to click the details button and see what's going to be done before you commit!

| Hey, Can anyone package Kopete 12 for Xandros, KDE 3.4.2 on an x86? I had the beta version it was for Kubuntu and worked but it was unstable of course... and the closest thing that came to working of the stable version was an RPM package.. but it said can't use -y without --force=yes.. I got the source package from kopete.kde.org.. I got as far as ./configure --prefix=/usr and then during make and make install it came up with errors.. and I really dont have a clue about any of this.. just kinda guessing.. Could some tell me what commands to run to make a package or install the source package? or could someone package this fer me as a deb? |
