K im getting this error now when i click home
KDEInit could not launch 'XandrosFileManager':
Could not find 'XandrosFileManager' executable.
Konquer is now coming up instead of XFM. What happened was i was doing something on XN when everything froze and restarted. Came back up couldnt log in. I would type password in the black screen back to login screen. So i tried root and then safe mode nothing worked. Went into the third mode (expert mode) and didnt know waht to do. I went into apt-get becuase i didnt know what else did apt-get dist-upgrade. Came back up with new KDE and XN wont connect and no XFM.
Help me out please thanks. |

You'll have to try to re-install XFM from your CD or from XN (but via the apt-get tools).
You can try:
| Code: | | apt-get install --reinstall package-name |
to force the system to download and re-install a package it might think is already installed.
So, what happened between the time of "It installed and was working fine" and "My system is h0rked beyond belief"? Were you installing packages from some other distribution perhaps? Using repositories of an unsavory nature in some back alley of the internet or packages (or worse, RPMs) that someone of unknown either identity or reputation uploaded to a warez server?
Computers only do what you tell them to do. So please help us understand how you got into this mess so that we can help others avoid a similar fate. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

Ok here is what i did. I completly reinstalled Xandros. Went in as root
1. added this to my apt source list
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get install xchat
logged out root logged in me
1. Ran XN
2. Install all latest updates from xandros - but i didnt use xandros's source link but the debian ones it was giving me an error from XN. XN installs a whole bunch of stuff dont know what it was but it did. Any options i did the default.
This time i log and i go in no filesystem at all i cant access anything but applications on the desktop or in the menu. KDE 3.3 i think is installed and i cant do anything really. |

Ahhh...I thought that was my 'newbie' move!!
Guess ya re-installed again!?
I agree with mike80808...keep those sources 'trusted'.
I've gone thru the similar upgrade bummers- only to trash and re-install again.
Finally i spent 2 dayz googling & reading here, and today i surf~ "updated, online...& tunes blaring!
And i typed it all down, in a thread somewhere.
Search here well, for "updating", "upgrading", and "read", then read more! _________________ I Have moved to "GNU/Linux-Ubuntu", Distro. Tho I still "own" a Xandros OS, I move over, to continue the 'GNU/Linux' ~ non-owned, Linux distro, thats just as easy- just as friendly- just as supported, Free OperatingSystem. Thank You All. |
