Hello everyone !
My above notebook has an Intel AC`97 Audio Controller and I cant get the sound to work properly. I have sound sometimes and most often it is faulty (with short breaks). When I maximize the buffer, it gets better, but sometimes the sound just is not there.
Could someone please tell my about right settings or alternative drivers to install
Would be GREAT |

Hi Olin,
One thing to check first is if your BIOS has an option about PNP OS installed or ACPI OS installed and see if you can turn that off.
Some people have had luck with these kinds of popping and scratching issues by installing the experimental ALSA drivers off of Xandros Networks. Also make sure you apply the HArdware detection update that is availiable through XN as well.
Thanks

Hello Matt
Thanx for replying.
I am actually having problems with Xandros networks.
I get the following message :
Xandros Networks is having problems downloading data from the internet.
Make sure your system is properly connected to the internet and that proxy settings are properly set if applicable.
It must have something to do with the fact that I access the Internet
with a windows 2000 machine that is linked to my Xandros machine by
a crossover cable. I use static IP with gateway. I only get this message
accessing the news.
However, I do not find the ALSA files or the detection updates in the
fields I can access. So- PLEASE HELP !!!!!!
Thank you, Oliver |

I've seen that problem "forever" (I registered 11-21-02) but it hasn't prevented me from using Xandros Networks to download packages or see what's installed on my system. Support has never explained to me why it exists. I'm not saying you don't have a problem, just that that is not a good indication. Do you have "View -> Expert" checked? I saw hardly anything until I discovered that. Have you used the "search" window at the top right of the XN screen? Try entering ALSA or anything appropriate.

Hi Olin,
If you are having issuse with XN and still can t get it to work you can install the updates using the Xandros Update utility as well. The packages you are searching for in XU are
1) an update to the package xandros-detect-base (this is the hw detection update)
2) a new package called xandros-alsa-x1. This will install all the reqd peices to install the ALSA sound drivers.
Hope this helps
