Users of our PCL/HPGL viewer application http://www.pclviewer.com report that they have made it work on XANDROS/CROSSOVER.
We would like to make it work really well!
Is there any technical info. on how to be a well behaved WinApp?
How do I go about getting on the XANDROS approved app. list? |

Glad to see that your app works under Crossover Office with Xandros. I am amazed at how quickly this list is growing! You can have your app certified by Codeweavers for use with their Cross Over product by following this link.
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/certify/
While Cross Over comes buddled with Xandros it is a seperate product that is available for sale on it's own for use with other Distros as well. This means that becoming one of their certified apps opens up a pretty large community.
You may also want to try your application with Wine the free program that Crossover is based on. If it also works in Wine you can submit your application to be listed on their database as well by following the "Submit Application" link on the left in their "Application Database" window.
Thanks for helping to make linux even better. _________________ Judyz

So far I haven't had much lick getting the apps I need to run in Crossover.
I maybe to far out of the box, but do you think a wrapper could be made to run some of these apps. I seems to me that maybe you would get better use of the power of Linux.
I'm a user not a developer. It's just a thought I had.
Thanks Scott |

Scott,
What apps are you trying to get to run under Crossoveroffice? COO is a very rapidly maturing product with version 5 soon to be released. I have been using it since version 2 I believe and am continually amazed at the number Window$ application that it can successfully run, many of which are not explicitly supported. _________________ Ed Richards

Ed: I need to run Corel draw to be able to move to Linux full time. Crossover will load Corel but it can't open it. I get a message I'm missing a dll file.

Good for you! Linux is gaining in popularity very rapidly, and those who acknowledge it now will be in a better competitive position.

You can talk to the Crossover people, but also have a look at WINE Headquarters (Crossover is just a specialized version of WINE):
http://www.winehq.com/
You'll especially want to have a look at the WINElib users guide:
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/index
WINElib allows you to compile your windows applications specifically to run in WINE.
For future applications, you might consider using qt or wxwidgets for the user interface and such. Either of these will compile for windoze, Linux, or Mac. See:
http://www.trolltech.com/
and
http://www.wxwidgets.org/

Crossover and WINE aren't Xandros-specific, so you wouldn't get on a Xandros-approved list. You'd want to get your app certified with the Crossover people:
http://www.codeweavers.com/
and with the WINE people.
Hope this helps.

I'm running Corel Draw Select Edition (Version 7.467) under Crossover Office 4.1; it took really long to install and looked like it failed to install, but I just waited a little longer and then it finnished installing; Corel Photopaint & Corel Draw work really good.
Certifying Windows applications to run under Crossover Office seems like a weird way of porting applications to Linux; however, I guess it's no weirder than porting Linux applications to Windows via Cygwin. _________________ Linux simply works for me...

I recently loaded Xandros Pro, After several unsucessful tries of installling different versions of Corel Draw 11, I finially noticed what was missing on one of the tries...it was Microsoft OEL components.
So I installed that and IE in a win98 bottle and after that I was able to install and Run Corel Draw , with no problems.
I believe I will be able to load and run version 12 but have not tried yet. |

If you check out www.mainsoft.com , you can port your app fairly easilly.. Dunno about the cost for the software though. _________________

You will actually want to contact codeweavers: http://www.codeweavers.com
They have a way of getting your product certified to run in Crossover.
The same company owns codeweavers and Xandros, but Xandros is not the correct place to make this request, Codeweavers is. _________________ geekydude
