I figure most people who have moved on from Xandros probably don't come back to these forums.

On the other hand, I did, just to see what's going on.

So, what's going on? What have you replaced your Xandros install with?

I'll probably leave Xandros on this computer as long as the computer lasts; no reason to change it. But I've been installing Mint for friends.

Were still using XD 4.5 (on some older hardware). But installs Debian
plus its derivates Crunchbang, Mepis, Mint and Ubuntu for customers.
Is also working on an (so far inofficial) Debian/XFCE "remix"...

I have Mint on the little netbook I'm using these days. Probly will use the debian edition - as also posted about LMDE if I get something else to install to.

Note: I'm liking the new forum labels for users, particularly: Xandrosianschwing

Maybe someone is having a little fun with a faded forum.

I still come back to the forum on occation just to see what others are using. I still miss Xandros and wish they would once again maintain the desktop OS, but we all know that won't happen. I have been using PCLinuxOS since I left Xandros. Its been good and its very user friendly. But I miss some of the polish I found in Xandros. I am also looking to move back to a Debian based Distro. I have been looking very seriously at Mepis and Mint lately. I think I prefer the polish of Mint 10 but I don't like the the Ubuntu base. So I think Mepis will be more stable and is nearly as polished. I have looked at Mint Debian Edition but at this point I prefer KDE. Maybe if they make a KDE Debian Mint I will switch. Finally I am waiting on baited breath to see what HP does with their WebOS on the desktop. I have hope that they will create a true Linux desktop distro similar to Xandros, but alas I fear that most likely they are just making VM to run their WebOS inside of Windows on the desktop. I guess we will know in a year or so. If HP does make a true Linux distro for the desktop I will likely switch to that. Because I expect that if they do it, they will put the resources into it to make it 'just work' as Xandros always did.

But until then I will stick with PCLOS or maybe Mint or Mepis. If its not hijaking the thread, I'd love to hear what other Xandros users have to say about Mepis and Mint and their experiences with them.

I have no complaints about Mint 10 or Mint LMDE they both produce stable systems.
I am waiting to see how LMDE fares when they move to Mint 11 if it acquires the new window dressing within a short length of time I will transfer my main machine to LMDE.
The reasoning behind this that LMDE tracks Debian Testing and should not need reloads. It is worthy of note that whilst LMDE is Gnome based out of the box there is nothing to stop you making it KDE based with the appropriate packages.

It seems to me that installing KDE packages onto a Gnome distro would be asking for trouble with all kinds of dependencies and other issues. Id rather start with KDE out of the box.

Moved on to Mint. Very happy with it. Stopped even looking at others.

I realize I didn't say what I moved on to.

I switched from Xandros to Ubuntu when Xandros stopped paying me and Canonical started. If I wasn't being forced to "dogfood" I'd be back to rolling my own distro from scratch, probably on ARM hardware.

I've been using PCLOS now for at least 4 years. I've sampled others, & none have come as close to Xandros right out of the install as far as everything just working.

Hi:
I found PcLinux works well and does everything..good one.
Lately I have installed Debian 6.0 and I would think this is a good replacement for Xandros.
Right now i am bouncing between PcLinux and Debian...
Once i figured out the drivers for my video card and they worked correctly Debian seems just about right for me...
I will just have to play with both to see which i like the best..
I have tried pretty well everything else and the above is what i finished with.
Good Luck to all.

man, since I quit using Xandros....what HAVEN'T I tried??
PCLinuxOS, CentOS, Mandriva, Sidux, AptoSid, Puppy, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Mint Debian...
thru it all....I've been most happy with the Debian derivatives...
I much prefer deb packages to rpm.

Pardus for me. All worked out of the box and all codecs were installed. Seems to have that spark I felt with Xandros..
