I'm sorry, I know this may sound like a stupid question but what is the difference between KDE and GNOME and how do I know which one I have. I'm using a 701SD Xandros Linux by the way. Can someone maybe screenshot a picture of each one so I know which one I have??

Go to control Centre and on the very early pages it tells you.
Xandros was based on KDE but had a little Gnome thrown in.

My ignorance does not really know what a 701SD Xandros Linux is!

As I recall if you click the button at the bottom far left of the display you will see a drop up menu and Control Centre is half way up.

This assumes that the task bar is at the bottom of the screen.

After you click the Control Centre section the rest is pretty intuitive. If you do something wrong it is very unlikely to break so wander freely back and forth.

ps
The button mentioned in the first paragraph also discloses the off button.

I no longer run Xandros but it certainly had a control center when I did run it.
I presently run Linux Mint, Gnome, and Pardus, KDE they both have Control Centres.

If you are unable to find it under the same button, possibly labelled Menu, at the bottom left hand end of the toolbar then I cannot help you.

Helen, like you, I have a EeePC.
It has a customized version of Xandros...its main desktop is set to easy mode.
You can get the full KDE menu by installing the full desktop.

As Xandros is now really old and outdated...you might want to get a newer linux.
Ones I would recommend for your Eee PC 701SD would be Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Lubuntu, TeenPup, or Sidux.
These versions of linux are friendly and easy to use (except for Sidux)...and they all include a wireless driver for the 8187SE wifi card the 701 SD has.

Glad you found a distro that suits you! You're still welcome to come visit the Xandros forums. I've been using Mint (an Ubuntu derivative) on a laptop I was given, and I like it.
