hi there I am new to linux. After installing xandros OCE 4.5 in my x80n asus lap top i notice immediately that sound does not work, aside from sound, the corresonding atheros wireless device can not see any network or wireless broadcast and has to be linked to network via RG45.

I am wondering if any there are any linux gurus here who have experienced this and resolved the same.

Remember I am not Linux Techno Savvy so specific commands and instructions as to how to install and update driver package would be much appreciated.

Hereunder are the specs of my lap top:

CPU: Turion64x2 TL56
Display 14"WXGA (GE force 7000m)
Sound card: realtek Azalia audio
ODD: Dvd sup. MTI
Wireless: 802.11 b/g (Atheros)
HD: 160 GB

Thanks in advance

Hi neville02 and welcome to "Xandros User Forums"!

These problems may depend on driver issues. Have an laptop where the originally
installed "Windows Vista" was replaced by "Xandros Desktop 4.5". The soundcard
is detected as "ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia" and wireless networkcard as
"Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter"

Have you tried to configure/detect the soundcard with "alsaconf" command within
Console? And creating wireless network connection with "Network Connections"?

yes ive done alsoconf... no result the sound card is still mute... i was however able make atheros work by using the drivers in my eeepc cd.

when running hardware detection i can not see soun ad card. what is seen is theXthe modem and designates it as high quality audio modem. nvidia, when it should be motorolla. perhaps the os is confusing modem from sound card pci?

My modem is detected as "Standard Modem".

Updated kernel module or alsa driver may be necessary. Try to look at:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ or http://www.alsa-project.org/
for solutions.

Welcome Neville02 to Xandros

#1 http://www.stchman.com/ath_drv.html
step by step Instructions on how to install i wish you the best with linux
Drivers for your ar5006eg Wifi network, best if you download all your drivers before installing the software to usb stick or exteral hard drive.

#2 can't find drivers for a network card not listed it would help me better if you would post the name and the chip set numbers can be found on the network card a black chip makes it faster for finding the right drivers.

#3 are you sure it didn't find your cdrom? you have a choice when installing programs on linux Console,Wine,Crossover, and default program for installing programs.

#4 your sound card driver
Found: http://www.sis.com/download/
the company that made the sound card
before downloading sound driver might try sound blaster compatiable

#5 Video Card Gfroce 7 Notebook download
http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/XFree86/Linux-x86/190.53/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run&lang=us&type=GeForce

after downloaded might have to run in console mode
or advance user download to root directory or home directory
type dir (hit the enter key) make sure you see the file in the directory then you can cheat the system by using copy and past command then you just need to type install and past the rest.
type install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run

crossover program will have most of your windows software

I watch dvd movies on cdrom, play games, use windows software, download and install more software other then updates provide, use yahoo, msn, icq only in linux, surf the web, listen to music online , watch hulu movies, use my linux box as a server.

If you have problems finding drivers for your items post a message i'm sure someone will point you to a download area to get the drivers you need.

Glad to help a friend in need
