I wanted a simple random password generator. APG looked simple enough. Now I'm getting errors at XN. I am also experiencing other software errors.

There was an install error of APG. I did apt-get -f install at the console to finish the installation, but it didn't work. I removed APG, but I still have errors.

When I attempt to do a search at XN. I get the following errors:

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: K-launcher said Error loading "kio_http"

Then the next window pops up:

Quote:
Could not download file:

from web server

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: K-launcher said Error loading "kio_http"

Then the next window pops up:

Could not download file:

from web server

Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: K-launcher said Error loading "kio_http"

But XN seems to go through with the search any way.

As far as I can tell, two programs have been affected: gphoto2 and the clock. I removed and put back gphoto2 and seems to be fine. I forget the name of the clock that comes standard with xandros, but it has the wrong time and date now and I'm unable to change it.

Any help you offer is greatly appreciated.

The problem seems to be solved. I went to adm console and ran:

/etc/init.d/xandros-dvmonitor restart

no more error messages at XN. As for my clock, I discovered a few people had the same problem a few years ago at:
http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=32874&highlight=

I discovered that my usr/share/zoneinfo/ dir was gone, so I used the one posted at this thread. Problems are solved for now.

I guess I have to turn to windows for that random number generator? Too much hyperspace activity in linux? I can't wait for consumer use of quantum computers so linux can really take off. I'll just hook the pc straight into my neocortex.

OK, I got a really bad problem this time. My print service is stopped, so I attempted to uninstall and reinstall all the associated drivers at XN.

When I got to hpijs, I got error messages. The install is incomplete. Now XN freezes when initilizing and I have errors in other apps, like Thunderbird which failed to associate hotlinks to a browser. Fortunately, the solution for fixing hotlink associations is here at the forums. Also Adobe Acrobat Reader now fails to launch.

The real problem is with XN. I tried /etc/init.d/xandros-dvmonitor restart at adm console, then I tried apt-get -f install and apt-get --purge remove hpijs, but I get the same results:

Quote:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 10000000. (man 5 apt.conf)
E: Error occurred while processing libgnomevfs2-common (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/xnv4.xandros.com_4.0_pkg_dists_xandros4.0-xn_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

I notice this forum has not been very active lately. I don't know if this means most people here have switch to a new OS or what. If there is a better forum than this one to find a solution, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.
