hip.pixl wrote this a while back(22/7/05):
I just installed Amarok trough the Xandros Networks. With the Xandros distrobution and the Debian unsupported and the "deb http://www.xandros.or.id/archive xxx main" checked. Altough it installed fine, when started the program would just flash a popup and then disappeared ...
A search on the forum brought up this remark -
"arnoldjames":You can get Amarok from http://www.archlug.org/apt/dists/xandros3/archlug/binary-i386/
I installed it for Xandros 3.0 and it works just fine.
When installing this file XN downloaded some more files like gstreamer. Looks like something is missing in the XN package.
Newb steps ...
1 goto http://www.archlug.org/apt/dists/xandros3/archlug/binary-i386/
2 right click "Amarok beta" and select 'save link as'
3 hit enter
4 open Xandros Networks and select "install deb file"
5 browse to the 'amaroK_1.3.beta2-1_i386.deb' you just downed
6 hit enter again and wait till it's done
7 start Amarok through the start/applications/multimedia/amarok link
8 follow wizard
9 enjoy
[end/quote]
But it don't work that way...
-Amarok beta isn't there anymore unfortunately
I ended up installing ark which was useful anyway for filing zip files.
I'll go to the Amarok site and install from there, because the problem hip.pixl described is still the same: you download Amarok via XN and it only shows the welcome pop up then dies _________________ You can't soar with the eagles when you're flapping with the turkeys. |

#justwally: I downloaded(10 min) Mplayer from your website and installed it via XN(debian unsupported ticked, clicked install deb file). Doesn't show up in my apps->multimedia menu though, I'll search where it is and if I find it I'll create a desktop icon/menu entry for it(shiengchieh explained this in a post somewhere).
Andrew wrote this about Amarok, Kaffeine & codecs a while back:
amaroK is available from the XOID Repository, for instructions on how to pull from XOID please go here: http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=12631
Homepage for amaroK:
http://amarok.kde.org
A2:
Part1: The program
Kaffeine is a "front-end" to Xine (Video Player in the Launch menu), It's look and feel helps it to better fit in with the Xandros KDE desktop, and it also has playlist support, and a slew of other features.
Kaffeine is available from the XOID Repository, for instructions on how to pull from XOID please go here: http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=12631
Homepage for Kaffeine:
http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/
Part 2: Codecs
To be able to playback more video formats you'll need to download some codecs. To do this, go here: http://www2.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html and download the "essential codecs package" (Just click on one of the links in that row, under HTTP or FTP).
In Xandros File Manager, Right Click on the file you just downloaded and choose "Extract All", then Save, this will create a folder called essential-200xxxxx, in the Current Directory,
Now using the Xandros File Manager in Administrator mode (Launch, Applications, System, Administrator Tools), create a folder called "win32" (no quotes) in /usr/lib. Then copy the contents of the essential-200xxxxx folder (not the folder itself, just the contents) to the /usr/lib/win32 folder.
Once this is done Kaffeine (or most any linux video player) will be able to play most video formats.[unquote]
That'll keep me busy for while _________________ You can't soar with the eagles when you're flapping with the turkeys. |

If mplayer isn't showing in the multimedia menu, you'll have to create a menu item for it there.
Its path is: /usr/bin/gmplayer _________________ SimplyMEPIS 7

#justwally: I'm afraid it skips from giftopnm to gnome-(a lot of entries) but no gmplayer in that directory. XN doesn't give you a clue to where a .deb is installed, unlike when you an apt-get <package> I suppose, then you can see a path.
Anyways, 2nd try with the Mplayer site _________________ You can't soar with the eagles when you're flapping with the turkeys. |

You can always install pdbv and that will create an html listing of everything that is installed, their paths, their dependencies, etc.
Edited 21 March 2006 @ 14:00 PST
More info on pdbv...
I created an "installed_sw" directory in my /home/wally directory, and then I created a menu item (with the menu editor) in the utilities section that has a command line of:
pdbv --dir=/home/wally/installed_sw
Of course, you can do this from the command line.
Do not run it as root!
Once you have run it, you can open the index.html file and quickly/easily browse through your installed "stuff."
I can't overstate how useful this is. _________________ SimplyMEPIS 7

#justwally: I will (attempt ) to install pdbv via XN(debian unsupported ticked).
Then I'll return to the player issue _________________ You can't soar with the eagles when you're flapping with the turkeys. |

Hi All Users,
I had the problem somewhat same like Andrew when i want to listen to music from my music files and when i open it, file takes a lot time to open and even to get started, sometimes it being named by a weird name, its name changes with some abstract name, i don't know why it is happening, again when the song starts, in between it stop playing suddenly,it doesn't moves forward or backward and sometimes it also turn off the system as well. I consulted many specialists for this, all of them guaranteed to solve my problem 100%, they took their money for the services and made it work just for a month or two and after 3 to 4 months still the same, i wasted my lot of money but i got nothing in return,
Same goes with my Video players, both have same problem, can somebody help me or guide what m i supposed to do,i would be very much thankful to them, and it would be appreciable.
I don't mind how much it costs to me, but i want permanent solution for my systems. Even i don't want a replacement as well. I want the solution for the same systems please.
Thanks _________________ bluetooth headset |
