Internet connectivity is fine and straight forward, but I can't get Windows Networking to work in X4.
I can see Windows PS's on X4, but I can't get to shared folders and printers.
I can transfer files from Windows Box's to X4 box shared folders.
I use the same Network workgroup name as with all boxes and all others work fine.
I have file and printer sharing for Windows Network enabled on all PC's..
nfs-common,,,samba-windows networking,,, cpu-sys unix printing system are running on X4. Firewall is turned off, Antivirus is turned off, till I figure it out.
I have installed and used several version 3 boxes and Windows networking always worked great and with only inputting the Workgroup name.
Any Suggestions?

I also have networking problems. I have an X4 PC that needs to conect with 2x Infrant Ready NAS Unix systems. Very slow to list contents and sometimes impossible to access files. I did wonder how the X4PC was accessing anything as most of the shares have user login codes and I have never been prompted to input these on X4. Answer must be in here somewhere.

By contrast, on the WinXp (dual boot) Accessing the Infrants is quick and easy with logins required.

Duh, solved my own problem. Typical newbie who has now learned to configure NFS and NAS user permissions.

I have laptop running Xandros 4 Home edition and a PC that dual boots with Windows XP and Xandros 4. Both machines have wireless cards that are supported by Xandros and the PC connects to the internet via a wired ethernet connection to an ADSL modem/router.

I wanted to contect the laptop to the internet via wireless through the PC and I have achieved this with the PC running XP - in fact it was a breeze!

It literally took a couple of minutes to set up - I set up a static wireless connection in XP and shared the wired LAN and that was it! On the Xandros laptop it picked up the XP wireless interface as a visible network - Dhclient ran and configured everything and I had an internet connection on the laptop.

This works perfectly time after time when the PC is running XP.

I then thought I'd rather be running Xandros on my PC than Windows - so I set about doing the same thing but this time running Xandros on the PC. Since then I have spent about 4 hours a day for the past 2 weeks to try and achieve in Xandros what Windows did in a couple of minutes!!

I have managed to set up a wireless network between the two machines, using static addresses -DHCP does'nt work at all - and they can ping eachother and see eachother's shares - but getting the internet connection has got me completely stumped and seems impossible.

Over the past days and weeks I have found myself being sucked deeper and deeper into the murky world of Linux networking and have ended up mucking about with Dhcp3-server, dhclient, resolv.conf, dhcpd.conf, network/interfaces and literally etc etc etc!!

Surely it can't be that difficult.....or can it??

I have been using Xandros ( and other Linux distros) for a few years now and would love to ditch Windows completely - but I keep running up against thing like this which ( and I hate to say it) makes me glad I kept Windows on some of my machines!!

Ok.

Some feedback on the wireless conection.

I found it fairly easy to connect, perhaps some more work on a Wizard for assiting wirless conection, as well as a way to save your id with password,
the only thing I find annoying is having to re-type my WAPA password everytime I reconnect.

The network wizard doesn't find my bluetooth DUN connection. I created a DUN connection over my bluetooth phone ( Kyocera Strobe )using wvdial but as the network wizard does not see it I have no way to easily setup internet sharing. Is there a way to make the network wizard recognize the connection or the device? If not this is a feature that should definately be added in future releases.
